PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ben Avit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Dunne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Dunne's choice of entrance music: Indica - Ikuinen virta. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Avit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Dunne!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Dunne misses.

Dunne closes the distance and clinches.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Avit has a couple of punches blocked by Dunne.
Avit taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Avit throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Avit misses with a short punch on the inside.
Dunne tries to throw a body punch but Avit avoids it by throwing Dunne back against the cage.

Dunne keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Avit's efforts to push away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Avit bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dunne's guard.

Avit postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dunne is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Avit, into his guard.

Dunne tries to free his leg and advance position but Avit is retaining full guard.

Dunne is pressing down on Avit's thigh, looking to free his foot. Avit is holding on for now.
Dunne is taking a breather. Avit says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dunne wants to control but Avit is keeping him busy.
Avit wants to improve his position but Dunne is controlling well.

Dunne throws a shot from downtown. Avit moves away and avoids it.
Dunne blocks a head kick by Avit.
Avit bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Dunne's head backwards.
Dunne tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Avit was well out of range. Poor timing from Dunne.
Dunne takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Dunne needs to keep his hands up - Avit had a free shot at his head there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Dunne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Avit won't be happy with that.
Dunne wants to control for a moment but Avit uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Avit is looking to stall here but Dunne recovers full guard.
Dunne utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Avit pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dunne is keeping the position for now.

Avit drops back, looking for a kneebar! Dunne looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Dunne looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Dunne!

The referee asks Dunne politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Dunne prefers to stall for the moment though.

Despite being in the dominant position, David Dunne just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Dunne swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Dunne tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Avit swivels and escapes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Dunne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Dunne looks to land a right hand but Avit moved out of range.
Dunne with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Avit to score with a decent uppercut.

Dunne drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Dunne is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Avit knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Avit is looking to regain half guard here but Dunne keeps moving and retains side control.
Avit is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Dunne off and has taken his back!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Avit is trying to stick to Dunne's back but Dunne is turning into Avit. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Avit's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dunne.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dunne accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dunne stays in close to Avit's body and controls the position.
Avit is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Avit lands strikes from half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dunne is refusing to be controlled, as Avit sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dunne keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Avit is working for a kimura but Dunne is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dunne manages to get to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dunne is on top in guard.
David Dunne is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dunne wants to control from the top but Avit keeps moving.
Dunne postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ben Avit has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dunne is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Dunne's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
