Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jarkko Ruutu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes keeps the fight on the outside.
Ruutu slips a straight right by Hughes.
Hughes shoots in but Ruutu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ruutu lands with a nice body punch.
Hughes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hughes misses with an uppercut.
Ruutu lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Ruutu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hughes swivels and escapes.

Hughes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ruutu.

Hughes throws an overhand right that lands on Ruutu's shoulder, as Ruutu tries to avoid the shot.

Hughes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ruutu misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ruutu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hughes as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jarkko Ruutu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes moves out of range of the leg kick from Ruutu.

Ruutu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hughes, pushing him back against the cage.

Hughes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hughes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ruutu walks away with a smile on his face. Hughes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ruutu takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Hughes is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Ruutu tries to clinch up but Hughes circles away and keeps his distance.
Ruutu tries to bum rush Hughes with a series of wild strikes but Hughes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ruutu slaps away a takedown attempt from Hughes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hughes swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruutu.
Ruutu tries to clinch there but Hughes circles away.

Ruutu rushes Hughes and presses him up against the cage.

and Ruutu counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Ruutu's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ruutu moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ruutu as he avoids it easily.
Ruutu lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Ruutu tries to land knees in the clinch but Hughes avoids the damage to the body.
Ruutu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hughes tries to move into range but Ruutu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Ruutu instigates a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hughes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ruutu just stands there and leans against the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ruutu lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ruutu tries to land knees in the clinch but Hughes avoids the damage to the body.
Hughes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ruutu smiles and moves away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jarkko Ruutu dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hughes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ruutu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ruutu uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hughes has time to react.

Hughes is trying desperately to land a takedown but Ruutu is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Hughes.

Ruutu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ruutu rushes Hughes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Hughes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ruutu is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jarkko Ruutu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Hughes.

Ruutu sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Hughes's defenses. It connects perfectly with Hughes's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
