PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jaiden Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BUZZ SHAW (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). SHAW comes into a darkened arena with his song building. INSANE IN THE MEBRAIN kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
SHAW on the wrong end of a nice hook.

It looks like BUZZ SHAW has been cut.
Costa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
SHAW throws a head kick but Costa moves out of range.
Costa fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Costa ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Costa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
SHAW cracks Costa with an open hand slap.

Costa instigates a clinch.
Costa goes for a takedown in the clinch but SHAW prevents it.

SHAW is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
SHAW stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Costa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

BUZZ SHAW seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

SHAW shoots in and bounces Costa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

SHAW keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Costa's head.

SHAW got a little sloppy there for a moment and Costa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, SHAW has managed to get both his arms back between Costa's legs - danger averted.
SHAW works a leg free and moves into half guard.

SHAW decides to stand up.
Costa is looking to clinch but SHAW is avoiding it.

SHAW shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Costa's guard.

SHAW decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Costa, up you get!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Costa crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from SHAW - the referee stops the clock and Costa gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says SHAW. Costa manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

SHAW forces Costa back against the cage and clinches.
SHAW misses with an elbow over the top.
SHAW tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Costa smiles and moves away.

Costa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows SHAW to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Costa could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

SHAW postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
SHAW postures up in Costa's guard and throws a big left but Costa blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
SHAW pushes down on Costa's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Costa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of SHAW's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take SHAW's back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
SHAW is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
SHAW has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

SHAW breaks Costa's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Costa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says SHAW as he avoids it easily.

SHAW postures up and lands a big shot to Costa's brow.
Costa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Costa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Costa keeping moving, preventing SHAW from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as SHAW accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Costa shoots in looking for a takedown. SHAW tries to sprawl out of it but Costa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. SHAW manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Costa tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but SHAW was well out of range. Poor timing from Costa.

Costa closes the distance and clinches.
SHAW has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Costa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

SHAW escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Costa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Costa wants to pass the guard but SHAW is keeping the position.

Costa throws a combination. SHAW tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Costa delivers a nice body kick.
SHAW dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Costa. That did some damage!

SHAW is looking to take a break and control but Costa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well SHAW has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
