Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniele Vantaggiato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Maia!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia takes the fight into the clinch.

Vantaggiato tightens his grip and picks Maia up, before dumping him to the ground. Maia manages to land in guard.
Vantaggiato forces his way into half guard.
Vantaggiato is looking to take a break and control but Maia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Vantaggiato looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vantaggiato stalling away here and it's allowed Maia to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Vantaggiato drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maia looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maia looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maia!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Daniele Vantaggiato will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Vantaggiato. No joy for Maia on that attempt.

Vantaggiato fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maia, pushing him back against the cage.

Vantaggiato has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Maia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Vantaggiato.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vantaggiato tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maia wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Maia is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Vantaggiato will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Let's hope that Maia has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Anderson Maia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Vantaggiato tries for a takedown but Maia circles away easily

and Maia counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Vantaggiato is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Maia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vantaggiato sprawls well initially but Maia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Vantaggiato has his foot on Maia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maia works his way back into a safe position though.
