The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Royo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Royo dodges the punch combination from Thornton.
Thornton throws out a loose jab but Royo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Royo thows a body shot but no joy.

Royo moves into the clinch.
Royo is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Thornton is defending well for now.
Royo is pressed up against the cage. Thornton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Royo down to the mat. Royo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Thornton thows a left - swing and a miss!

Royo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Thornton.

Thornton tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Royo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Thornton manages to avoid it.
Thornton shoots in but no luck this time.
Thornton misses with a takedown attempt - Royo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Luis Royo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Thornton.

Royo lands a big head kick that sends Thornton tumbling to the mat! Royo takes a step backwards and waves Thornton back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Josh Thornton has been cut.
