PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between JF Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Montgomery!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kennedy lands a head kick!


It looks like Marcus Montgomery has been cut.
Montgomery shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kennedy as he jumps to the side.
Montgomery changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kennedy tries to avoid it but Montgomery manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kennedy to the ground. Kennedy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kennedy looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A swing and a miss from Kennedy.
Montgomery fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kennedy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kennedy throws a series of punches but Montgomery moves out of range.
Kennedy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Montgomery.
JF Kennedy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Montgomery.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Montgomery takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.


That has opened up Marcus Montgomery's cut even more.

JF Kennedy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kennedy catches Montgomery with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Montgomery throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kennedy's waist but Kennedy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Montgomery off to one side.

Kennedy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Montgomery goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kennedy prevents it.

Kennedy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Montgomery shoots in looking for a takedown. Kennedy tries to sprawl out of it but Montgomery keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kennedy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Montgomery is trying desperately to land a takedown but Kennedy is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Montgomery.
Kennedy lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Kennedy throws a left and a right that both miss

and Montgomery counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kennedy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Montgomery is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Montgomery shoots in for a takedown but Kennedy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kennedy throws a right and a left that Montgomery avoids nicely.
Kennedy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Montgomery throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kennedy throws a right hand that Montgomery ducks under and follows up with a left that Montgomery also avoids with ease.
Kennedy stuffs the takedown.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Montgomery will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Montgomery fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kennedy sprawls well initially but Montgomery persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kennedy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Montgomery keeps control of Kennedy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kennedy is pressed up against the cage. Montgomery has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kennedy down to the mat. Kennedy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kennedy looks to land a combination but Montgomery avoids it well.
Kennedy cracks Montgomery with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
JF Kennedy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kennedy buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Montgomery tries to bum rush Kennedy with a series of wild strikes but Kennedy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Montgomery counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kennedy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kennedy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Montgomery is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kennedy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Montgomery's back instead.

Kennedy is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Montgomery is defending well though. Kennedy let's go of the attempt for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kennedy is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Montgomery dives into side control.

Kennedy wants to get back to his feet but Montgomery is dominant here and he's now got Kennedy's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kennedy lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Montgomery circles away quickly and effectively.
Montgomery shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kennedy but Kennedy pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Montgomery shoots for a double leg takedown but Kennedy sprawls well. He's pushed Montgomery's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
JF Kennedy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Montgomery.

Montgomery shoots in and drives through. Kennedy sprawls well.

and Montgomery decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kennedy's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Montgomery showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Marcus Montgomery has got the better of the ground game so far.

Montgomery is looking to take a break and control but Kennedy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kennedy takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
