PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Can Tun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akihiro Mishiwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mishiwa comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hero kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Can Tun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akihiro Mishiwa!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tun tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mishiwa scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.


It looks like Can Tun has been cut.

Tun scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Tun dives in and grabs Mishiwa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mishiwa pushes down on Tun's head and hops out.

Mishiwa shoots in but no luck this time.
Tun misses with a takedown
and Mishiwa counters with a straight right hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tun shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mishiwa is trying to defend but Tun finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mishiwa won't allow Tun to pass to mount.
Tun passes to side control.
Tun staying calm.

Tun stands up.

Tun shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mishiwa defends it nicely.

Tun tries for a takedown but Mishiwa sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Mishiwa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mishiwa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Tun wants to hold on but Mishiwa pushes him away.

Mishiwa jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tun manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Tun is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mishiwa's half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Can Tun will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mishiwa throws a body kick that misses.
Tun comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Tun shoots for a takedown but Mishiwa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mishiwa throws a leg kick but Tun sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Tun slaps away a takedown attempt from Mishiwa, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Mishiwa is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tun tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mishiwa swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tun lands with a nice body kick.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tun shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Tun performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Tun wants to control but Mishiwa is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tun prevents Mishiwa from improving his position.

Tun is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mishiwa leaves Tun with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Can Tun. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mishiwa seems to be working for a kimura but Tun defends the submission attempt.

Tun is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Akihiro Mishiwa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Tun's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Mishiwa tries to clinch but Tun is having none of it.
Mishiwa cracks the inside of Tun's front leg.
Mishiwa feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Tun's calf.
Tun on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Mishiwa throws a head kick but Tun moves out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Tun crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mishiwa - the referee stops the clock and Tun gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mishiwa. Tun manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Tun closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mishiwa circles away.
Tun lands with a slapping head kick.
Tun on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Mishiwa walks forward, straight into a front kick from Tun.
Tun fails with an attempt to clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mishiwa tries for a takedown but Tun circles away easily
and Tun counters with a head kick.
Mishiwa takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Mishiwa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mishiwa lands in his opponent's guard.
Mishiwa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tun trying to keep a closed guard but Mishiwa is proving a slippery customer.
Tun looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mishiwa puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Mishiwa wants to pass the guard but Tun is defending well.
Tun throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Tun is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tun gets full guard.
Tun will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mishiwa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Mishiwa is looking to work some ground and pound but Tun has wrist control.

Tun looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mishiwa trying to control the position from guard on top but Tun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mishiwa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tun looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tun looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tun!
Mishiwa wants to control but Tun postures up.
Can Tun overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mishiwa keeps working.
Mishiwa tries to bench press Tun off him but Tun keeps the position.
Tun is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mishiwa will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Mishiwa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mishiwa seems a little lost for a moment, as Tun dominates the positioning.

And that's the end of the fight!
Akihiro Mishiwa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mishiwa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
