Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ming Xin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xin comes to the cage accompanied by Chinese Athem. Shaw has chosen Shangri-La as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xin is looking to clinch.

Shaw scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Xin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shaw can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Shaw got a little sloppy there for a moment and Xin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shaw has managed to get both his arms back between Xin's legs - danger averted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

John Shaw dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shaw throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
A nice combination there by Xin.


It looks like John Shaw has been cut.
Xin lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Xin.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shaw takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Shaw shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Xin as he avoids it easily.

Ming Xin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Shaw.
Xin throws a right hand that Shaw ducks under and follows up with a left that Shaw also avoids with ease.

Shaw feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
John Shaw has got the better of the ground game so far.

Xin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shaw doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shaw manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Xin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shaw gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Shaw lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Shaw looks up at the clock and then as Xin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shaw smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shaw accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Shaw passes Xin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shaw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Xin's waist but Xin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shaw off to one side.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Xin misses with a wild combination.
Xin stuffs the takedown attempt from Shaw. Shaw gets slowly back to his feet.
Shaw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Xin's waist but Xin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shaw off to one side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shaw is sitting in close to Xin's body. Xin has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Shaw is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Shaw is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Xin.
