PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve McRae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think McRae might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Disturbed-Indestructible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve McRae!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lucas ducks under a wild hook from McRae.
McRae tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lucas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McRae somewhat.
McRae looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lucas is fending him off so far but McRae persists. Nope, Lucas circles away and we're back to standing.

Lucas tries to keep at a distance but McRae has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lucas misses with a punch on the inside.
McRae is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lucas pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve McRae. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lucas is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McRae connects with a nice short shot to Lucas's temple.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McRae accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McRae stands up over Lucas, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Lucas has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McRae off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
McRae throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McRae smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
McRae fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
McRae misses with a few strikes there.
Lucas tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and McRae counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Lucas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
McRae connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Lucas is rocked!
John Lucas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lucas gets caught flat footed, as McRae shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Lucas is still in real trouble! Can McRae finish him?
McRae is breathing heavily.
Lucas avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

McRae postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lucas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McRae, into his guard.

Lucas stands and steps away. McRae gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and McRae counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McRae.
Lucas is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
McRae is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
McRae on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Lucas is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

McRae gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lucas stands up over McRae, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

McRae has his feet on Lucas's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
McRae is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lucas.

and McRae connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Lucas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McRae pinned against the cage. McRae gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and McRae counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
McRae throws a head kick but Lucas moves out of range.

and McRae counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Steve McRae has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Lucas.
McRae connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Lucas tries to close the distance and clinch but McRae swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Steve McRae overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lucas won't let McRae get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Lucas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Lucas pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

McRae might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lucas wants to take McRae's back here but McRae is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

John Lucas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

McRae goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

McRae fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lucas manages to avoid it.

Lucas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McRae.
Lucas is trying to drag McRae to the mat but McRae just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

McRae gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Lucas regains guard.
