PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Syd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Syd has chosen Poisen as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Don Syd is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Don Syd!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Syd pulls guard effortlessly.
Syd keeping full guard, as Sanchez tries to pass.
Sanchez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sanchez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sanchez sitting in guard, not really doing much.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sanchez gets to his feet. Syd looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Syd shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl out of it but Syd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sanchez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Syd shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sanchez is trying to defend but Syd finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Syd connects with a nice short shot to Sanchez's temple.
Sanchez gets back to full guard.
Syd throwing strikes but missing.

Sanchez pushes Syd off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Sanchez has his takedown stuffed
and Syd counters with a low kick, right behind Sanchez 's knee.

Sanchez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sanchez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sanchez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Syd throws a big right hand that misses.
Syd loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sanchez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Syd got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sanchez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Syd has managed to get both his arms back between Sanchez's legs - danger averted.
Syd in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Syd distracts Sanchez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Syd decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Syd is trying to control the action in half guard but Sanchez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Syd scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Syd landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Sanchez has hold of Syd's hands but Syd slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Syd lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sanchez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Syd is working away from the top position though.
Syd uses his free foot to push down on Sanchez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sanchez.
Syd lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Sanchez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Syd is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Syd lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Sanchez tries to hold on but Syd pushes him away.
Syd throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Sanchez is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
A nice elbow there by Syd.
Sanchez is trying desperately to improve position.
Poor strikes thrown by Syd there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Syd shoots and misses

and Sanchez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Sanchez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Syd is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sanchez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Syd is trying to control Sanchez's posture but Sanchez avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanchez looking to control but instead Syd has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Syd is doing well to control the position and prevent Sanchez from advancing to side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sanchez wants to stand but Syd has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Sanchez slows the pace down in half guard.
Sanchez is keen to just control but Syd is a slippery customer.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are battling for position here. Syd manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sanchez wants to stand but Syd is controlling his posture from full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Syd is on top in guard.
Sanchez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sanchez is thwarting Syd's attempts to control the position.
Syd is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sanchez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sanchez's back!

Sanchez wants to control his opponent's hands but Syd gets his hands free.
Sanchez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Sanchez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Sanchez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Syd stops a takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Sanchez blocks the elbow strike.
Sanchez prevents the takedown attempt.
Sanchez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sanchez manages to break the clinch.

Sanchez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sanchez gets through Syd's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Sanchez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Syd tries to score a body lock takedown but Sanchez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Syd tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

and Syd counters with a single leg into guard. Sanchez didn't expect that.
Syd is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Sanchez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Syd is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sanchez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sanchez has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimmy Sanchez will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Syd takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Sanchez has his takedown stuffed
and Syd counters with a leg kick.

Sanchez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Syd wants to get back to striking at distance but Sanchez won't allow it.

Sanchez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez tries to stand but can't do so whilst Syd controls his leg.
Sanchez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Still in half guard, Sanchez seems content to control.
Sanchez passes to side control.

Sanchez is trying to get an arm triangle but Syd is defending well.
Syd manages to get back to half guard.
Syd keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Sanchez slows the pace down in half guard.

Jimmy Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sanchez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
