Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Speedy Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Speedy Gonzales has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Speedy Gonzales!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzales displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Carwin throws out the jab.
No luck for Gonzales with that takedown attempt.

Gonzales shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carwin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gonzales postures up in Carwin's guard and throws a big left but Carwin blocks it.
Gonzales has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gonzales is looking to work some ground and pound but Carwin has wrist control.

Gonzales drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gonzales jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gonzales is working Carwin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Carwin has his foot on Gonzales's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gonzales works his way back into a safe position though.

Carwin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gonzales wants to control but Carwin is keeping him busy.
Gonzales connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Carwin some visible discomfort.
Carwin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Carwin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Gonzales tries to move to mount but Carwin blocks the move with his legs.

Carwin pushes Gonzales away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gonzales gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Carwin wants to get back to his feet but Gonzales drags him back down.

The ground and pound from Gonzales seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Carwin parries the strikes from Gonzales easily there. Gonzales is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Carwin to escape.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carwin throws an overhand right that lands on Gonzales's shoulder, as Gonzales tries to avoid the shot.
Carwin connects with a right hand. Gonzales shakes it off.

Gonzales shoots in and bounces Carwin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Gonzales trying to control but Carwin is working from the bottom.
Gonzales wants to pass the guard but Carwin is keeping the position.

Carwin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gonzales is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Carwin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gonzales's back instead.
Carwin gets his hands free as Gonzales looks to control.
Gonzales tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Gonzales is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Carwin misses with a head shot.
Gonzales is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Speedy Gonzales dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gonzales shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carwin as he avoids it easily.

Carwin throws a nice looking combination but Gonzales bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Carwin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gonzales sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Carwin tries to clinch but Gonzales moves out of range.
Gonzales throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carwin's waist but Carwin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gonzales off to one side.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Carwin!
Gonzales shoots for a double leg takedown but Carwin sprawls well. He's pushed Gonzales's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Chris Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Speedy Gonzales.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carwin darts in and clinches Gonzales up against the cage.
Carwin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Carwin throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gonzaless head.

Gonzales breaks the clinch.
Carwin lands a lovely overhand right.
Gonzales closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Gonzales keeps the fight on the outside.

Carwin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carwin tries for a kimura but Gonzales is defending well.
Speedy Gonzales has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gonzales is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Carwin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Carwin is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Gonzales manages to get to full guard.
Gonzales is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Carwin is staying active underneath Gonzales, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gonzales in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Carwin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gonzales!
