PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Whitey Star (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Whitey Star!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Star tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Star goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Star.

Star darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Star wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
Star wants to pass the guard but Smith is defending well.
Star seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Star throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Star controlling the pace.

Star is trying to work for a kimura but Smith is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Dan Smith has been cut.

Star shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Star is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it.
Star is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Star missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Smith is looking to escape.
Star is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smith is trying to stand up here but Star is controlling him well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A cross from Smith lands.
Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Star's head.


It looks like Whitey Star has been cut.
Smith throws a head kick but Star moves out of range.
Star takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Smith misses with a body kick.
Star looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.
Dan Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Star tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
Smith throws a lazy head kick
and Star finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Star on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Whitey Star. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Star dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Star's head and hops out.
Star shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Star.
Star shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dan Smith will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Star slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Star throws a head kick that misses
and Smith counters with an inside leg kick.
Star looks to clinch

and Smith counters with a head kick that drops Star to the mat! Star scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Star shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick

and Star counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Star wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Star trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith wants to stand up but Star is controlling him.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Star from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Star wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.
Star wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Star takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith looks to land a combination but Star avoids it well.
Star wants to clinch
and Smith counters with a two punch combo.
Star throws a left and a right that both miss
and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Star backing up. Star nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes.
Star fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Star misses with a takedown
and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Whitey Star. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt
and Smith makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Star doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Smith scoring well with a low kick there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Whitey Star is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Star takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Smith throws a series of punches but Star avoids them all with ease.
Star blocks a head kick by Smith.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick
and Star counters with a thumping low kick.
Good exchange - Smith coming out on top.


Whitey Star's cut is getting worse.
Star tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a leg kick.
Dan Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Smith scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Star shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Smith counters with a nice low kick that buckles Star's knee momentarily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smith stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Star with a poor takedown
and Smith counters with a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Star has his takedown stuffed
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Smith cracks Star with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Star looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Smith finish him?
Star tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Smith counters with a massive head kick! KABOOM! Star is out cold! A devastating KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Dan Smith!
