PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Braga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Haka Maka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maka is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Island Music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fernando Braga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Haka Maka!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Braga has taken the fight to the clinch.
Maka pressing his opponent against the cage.
Braga tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Maka just stands there and leans against the cage.
Maka prevents Braga from breaking the clinch.

Braga breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Maka darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Braga has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maka is working away from the top position though.
Braga wants to get back to full guard.
Maka is trying to control the action in half guard but Braga is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Braga gets full guard.
Braga controls Maka momentarily but Maka frees himself.

Maka looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Maka won't allow Braga to get back to his feet.
Braga keeping full guard, as Maka tries to pass.
Braga bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maka's guard.
Maka looking to control.
Maka might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Braga kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maka keeping moving, preventing Braga from controlling successfully.

Maka makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Maka tries to close the distance and clinch up but Braga swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Maka closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Braga is looking to control Maka's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Braga avoid being mounted?
Braga preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Maka gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Braga is breathing heavily.

and Maka counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Maka.
Maka with a flurry of punches that miss.
Braga trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Braga wants to get back to his feet but Maka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Maka seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Maka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Braga swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maka slows the pace down in half guard.
Braga won't allow Maka to pass to mount.
Maka performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Maka shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Braga pinned against the cage. Braga gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Maka fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Braga avoids it really well and circles away.
Braga shoots and misses
and Maka counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Braga falls off balance throwing a combination

and Maka moves into the clinch.
Braga tries to pull guard but Maka holds him up against the cage and eventually Braga drops back down to his feet.
A body shot lands from Maka.
Maka leaning his opponent against the cage.
Maka is working for takedown but Braga is calmly controlling the position for now.
Fernando Braga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Haka Maka.

Braga is trying to break free.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A bit of stalling here from Maka.

Maka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Braga throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Braga shoots and misses

and Maka counters with a shoot takedown. Braga fights it but they end up in guard.
Maka tries to free his leg and advance position but Braga is retaining full guard.
Maka slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Braga wants to sweep but no luck.
Braga is looking to stand up but Maka isn't so interested in that idea.
Maka stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Braga swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maka wants to control from the top but Braga keeps moving.

Maka gets to his feet. Braga looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Maka shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Maka showed some decent athleticism there.
Maka slips a nice elbow through Braga's hands, connecting with Braga's forehead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maka works his foot free and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maka controlling from the full mount.
Maka lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Braga working to try and regain half guard.
Maka wants to control the pace but Braga is squirming around nicely.
Maka is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Maka looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Maka moves to take his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Haka Maka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Maka closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Braga did well to prevent Maka getting side control.

Maka is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Braga has managed to free his arm - good work.
Braga tries to roll over but Maka keeps him under control.
Haka Maka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Maka keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Haka Maka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Maka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
