PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ace Portgas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mongo Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malone slaps away a takedown attempt from Portgas, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Portgas steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Malone.
Portgas shoots in looking for a takedown. Malone tries to sprawl out of it but Portgas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Malone manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Portgas wants to control from the top but Malone keeps moving.
Portgas looking to sit in guard and control but Malone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Portgas is working an open guard so Malone takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Portgas postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Malone is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Portgas, into his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Malone is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Malone has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Portgas is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Portgas is on top in guard.

Portgas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malone gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Malone stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Malone wants it to stay on the feet.
Malone misses with a hook. Portgas ducked under it nicely.
Portgas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Malone pinned against the cage. Malone gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Portgas shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Portgas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Malone tries to avoid it but Portgas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Malone to the ground. Malone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Portgas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Malone as he jumps to the side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Malone lands a big head kick that sends Portgas tumbling to the mat! Malone takes a step backwards and waves Portgas back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Horrible takedown by Portgas or perhaps it was just good defense by Malone which made him look bad.
Oh Portgas is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Malone throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Portgas stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ace Portgas.
