PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Drebin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frank Drebin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Drebin!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Winston Howard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drebin scores with a jab to the body.

Child looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Drebin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Child is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Child avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Child pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Drebin is keeping the position for now.
Child could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Drebin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Child pushing down on Drebin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Child throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Child not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Drebin has managed to clinch.
The referee calls for Drebin to work.

Drebin breaks from the clinch.
Child shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drebin as he avoids it easily.
Drebin throws a series of punches but Child avoids them all with ease.
Child throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Drebin looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Child works his way to full guard. Good work.
Drebin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Drebin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Child is breathing heavily.
Child is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Child working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Drebin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Drebin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Drebin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Drebin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Child. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Child wants to stand and escape but Drebin is having none of it.

Child had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Drebin is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Child Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Drebin's back instead.
Drebin trying to control but not successfully.

Child sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Drebin taps out!
