PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gaius Caesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quentin Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cane is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Alice In Chains - Man In The Box. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gaius Caesar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quentin Cane!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caesar bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Caesar moves into the clinch.

Caesar digs a right hand underneath Cane's ribcage. Cane let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Cane is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Caesar works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Caesar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Caesar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Caesar decides to stand and escape the position.
Caesar tries to clinch but Cane moves out of range.
Caesar moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Cane circles away from the clinch attempt.

Caesar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Caesar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cane paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Caesar lands a nice hook to Cane's body. Cane takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Caesar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Caesar closes the distance and pushes Cane back into the cage.
Cane has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Caesar tries to land knees in the clinch but Cane avoids the damage to the body.
Cane is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
A nice left hand lands by Caesar.

Caesar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cane lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Caesar at a distance.

Caesar has managed to clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Caesar.
Cane is trying to drag Caesar to the mat but Caesar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Gaius Caesar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Quentin Cane.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Cane jumps guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Caesar's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gaius Caesar dominated that round.

Caesar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Caesar rushes Cane and presses him up against the cage.
Caesar gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cane.
Cane is trying to break the clinch but Caesar has him pressed against the cage.
Cane tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Caesar smiles and moves away.
Cane jabbing away but nothing is landing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Caesar tries to avoid it but Cane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Caesar to the ground. Caesar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Cane makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Caesar walks forward, straight into a front kick from Cane.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nice straight punches there by Cane. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cane.
Cane shoots in for a takedown but Caesar shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gaius Caesar will probably get the nod.

Caesar is pushing Cane up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Caesar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Cane throws a strike but Caesar avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Cane is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Caesar lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cane!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Caesar stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Caesar swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cane counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Caesar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cane swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fighters circling - Cane throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Quentin Cane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cane scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Caesar doesn't seem bothered though.

Caesar slaps away a takedown attempt from Cane, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Gaius Caesar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Quentin Cane seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Caesar tries to close the distance and clinch but Cane swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gaius Caesar.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Caesar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
