PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jaaron Cent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ash Ketchum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jaaron Cent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ash Ketchum!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cent takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Cent looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Ketchum fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cent sprawls well initially but Ketchum persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ketchum throwing shots but Cent is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ketchum wants to stand up but Cent has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Ketchum stands up out of the half guard.
Cent could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A head kick from Ketchum lands but Cent takes it in his stride.

Ketchum clinches.
Cent fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Ketchum manages to break the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cent looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ketchum is taking a breather. Cent says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cent is looking for a sweep. Ketchum is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ketchum is controlling the pace.
Nice strikes from Ketchum there.
Ketchum frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Ketchum controlling from the full mount.
Ketchum cracks Cent with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Ketchum pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Ketchum looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Cent really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ketchum trying to control but Cent is having none of it.
Cent is trying to escape the mount.
Ketchum scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Ketchum lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Ketchum scoring with strikes but Cent is staying in there.
Cent is looking to get to half guard.
Ketchum can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cent is looking to escape.

Ketchum lands a nice shot to the head.
Ketchum looking to control and managing it successfully.

A nice elbow there by Ketchum.
Ketchum breaks from Cent's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Ketchum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cent. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cent is squirming around, avoiding Ketchum's attempts to control the action.

Cent keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ketchum lands a heavy elbow.

Cent might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ketchum fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Ketchum looking to control but Cent is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cent defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ketchum.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ketchum lands a nice short elbow.

Cent is looking for a sweep. Ketchum is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ketchum breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cent is staying active underneath Ketchum, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ketchum moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Ketchum has managed to clinch.

Ketchum pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cent crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ketchum - the referee stops the clock and Cent gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ketchum. Cent manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ketchum throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Ketchum will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cent tries for a takedown but Ketchum circles away easily
and Ketchum counters with a three punch combo that has Cent backing up. Cent nods at Ketchum to acknowledge the strikes.

Ketchum has Cent up against the cage in a clinch.

Ketchum breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cent circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ketchum has his takedown stuffed

and Cent counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Cent drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ketchum manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cent has Ketchum in his guard.
Ketchum wants to get up but he can't break Cent's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Cent working for a triangle but Ketchum defends it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cent has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ketchum is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ash Ketchum will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Ketchum bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ketchum wants to control but Cent is keeping him busy.
Cent tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ketchum wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ketchum in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick from Ketchum lands but Cent takes it in his stride.
Ketchum dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Ketchum has closed the distance and engaged Cent in a clinch.

Ketchum gets control of Cent's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ketchum will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Cent is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ketchum managing to control the position.
Cent wants to pass the guard but Ketchum is keeping the position.
Cent stands and throws Ketchum's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Cent swings around for an armbar but Ketchum sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cent's guard.

Cent looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Ketchum has picked Cent up and slammed him! Cent can't keep hold of the triangle and Ketchum manages to pass to side control!

Cent gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Ketchum is looking to take a break and control but Cent is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cent tries to pull guard but Ketchum won't allow it.

Cent swats away the attempt to clinch by Ketchum.

and Ketchum counters with a flying knee. Nice.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jaaron Cent. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ketchum darts in and clinches Cent up against the cage.

Ash Ketchum is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ash Ketchum comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ketchum has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
