PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matti Wanhanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Norrin Radd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wanhanen comes to the cage accompanied by Mina olen by Kotiteollisuus. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matti Wanhanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norrin Radd!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Radd throws a jab when Wanhanen was well out of range.
Nice uppercut there from Radd.

Wanhanen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Still in half guard, Wanhanen seems content to control.
Wanhanen prevents Radd from standing back up.
Radd tries to roll over but Wanhanen keeps him under control.
Radd controlling the position for now.
Wanhanen looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Wanhanen seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Radd has recovered full guard.

Radd manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wanhanen manages to get himself to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Radd stands and steps away. Wanhanen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd cheers as Radd lands an impressive looking overhand right. Wanhanen doesn't seem phased though.

Radd controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Radd must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wanhanen is trying to improve his position.
Wanhanen is trying to control Radd's posture but Radd avoids it.
Wanhanen is looking for a sweep.

Radd has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Radd throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Wanhanen on the side of the head.

Wanhanen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Radd listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Wanhanen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Radd.
Norrin Radd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wanhanen has managed to clinch.

Radd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wanhanen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wanhanen shoots in for a takedown but Radd shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Radd throws a shot from downtown. Wanhanen moves away and avoids it.
Wanhanen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Radd connects with a good right hand that stumbles Wanhanen. Wanhanen circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Radd swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Radd is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wanhanen.
Oh Wanhanen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Wanhanen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Radd.
Radd lands with a hook. Wanhanen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Radd swings for the body but Wanhanen moves out of range.
Wanhanen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Radd.
Radd might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Wanhanen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Radd's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wanhanen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Norrin Radd showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Wanhanen takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Wanhanen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Radd to the mat! Radd manages to get full guard.
Wanhanen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Radd swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Radd is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
It looks like Radd is going to stand back up.
Radd seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wanhanen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wanhanen.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wanhanen dives in and grabs Radd's left leg, looking for a takedown. Radd pushes down on Wanhanen's head and hops out.

Wanhanen feints and as Radd raises his hands in defense, Wanhanen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wanhanen drops back looking for a leg! Radd is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Radd manages to kick Wanhanen off! Wanhanen jumps back into Radd's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wanhanen wants to pass the guard but Radd is keeping the position.
Radd is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wanhanen is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Radd wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wanhanen moves out of range as Radd strikes.
Wanhanen's corner calls for a 1-2. Wanhanen obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Wanhanen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Wanhanen drops his hands momentarily and Radd takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wanhanen will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Radd misses with a straight left.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wanhanen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Radd sizes up Wanhanen with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Wanhanen on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Norrin Radd.
I've got Radd winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
