PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Sagat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Brone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brone is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by FINLANDIA by Jean Sibelius. Bob Sagat could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jason Brone's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Sagat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Jason Brone!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brone shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sagat is trying to defend but Brone finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sagat pushes Brone off looking to stand but Brone dives back in and keeps control.
Brone wants to take a breather but Sagat is having none of it.
Brone passes to side control.
Brone misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Sagat avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Brone.
Brone lands a few punches from side control.
Brone in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Brone tries to advance to mount but can't.

Brone trying to control the action but Sagat is working from the bottom.
Sagat tries to bench press Brone off him but Brone keeps the position.
Sagat on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sagat tries to get out of the position.
Brone tries to advance to mount but can't.
Brone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sagat keeps working.
Brone postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sagat takes a swing at Brone's ribcage but misses.
Sagat misses with a wild body shot.
Bob Sagat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brone dives in and grabs Sagat's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sagat pushes down on Brone's head and hops out.
Bob Sagat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sagat looks to throw the jab but Brone is out of range.
Sagat steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Brone.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Brone lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sagat has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sagat and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Sagat fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Brone throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sagat misses with a looping right.
Brone misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Brone motions for Sagat to come forward. Brone throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Sagat paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Brone has a takedown stuffed.

Brone throws a leg kick but Sagat checks it.
Sagat throws a lazy right hand but Brone sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Brone tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sagat is able to avoid easily.
Brone connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Brone uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sagat.

Sagat is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Brone fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sagat looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Brone buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Brone moves out of range as Sagat strikes.

Sagat cracks Brone with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


That has opened up Jason Brone's cut even more.
Sagat gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sagat jabs Brone right on the nose. Brone blinks but takes it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brone will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

No joy there for Sagat, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sagat throws a shot from downtown. Brone moves away and avoids it.

Brone shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Sagat throws a hook but Brone blocks it.

and Brone counters with a single leg into guard. Sagat didn't expect that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brone is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Brone trying to control the position from guard on top but Sagat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brone is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sagat wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brone looking to sit in guard and control but Sagat gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Brone throws out a loose jab but Sagat uses good head movement to avoid it.

Brone thuds his right hand into Sagat's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Brone tries to score with a low kick but Sagat moves his leg out of the way.
Sagat is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Sagat drops Brone with a beautiful combination! Brone stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sagat is looking for the KO!

Brone throws a strike but Sagat avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sagat holds on and takes a little breather.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Brone does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Sagat throws a jab when Brone was well out of range.

Sagat takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sagat works over Brone's head and body with a nice combination.


The cut above Jason Brone's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Sagat throws a looping overhand right but Brone ducks down to avoid it.

Brone closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sagat did well to prevent Brone getting side control.
Sagat regains full guard. Nicely done.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brone is on top in guard.

Brone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sagat manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brone has Sagat in his guard.

Brone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sagat makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Brone has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jason Brone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sagat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brone has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sagat has managed to get both his arms back between Brone's legs - danger averted.
Sagat chips away with some ground and pound.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sagat, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
