PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nino Abbas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rory Keenan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keenan has chosen Warriors Code as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nino Abbas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rory Keenan!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keenan throws a head kick that misses.
A swing and a miss from Keenan.
Abbas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Keenan looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Abbas looking for a sweep. Not yet Abbas, not yet.
Abbas keeping moving, preventing Keenan from controlling successfully.
Abbas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Abbas is working hard here to advance position.
Keenan throws a big right hand that misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Keenan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Keenan fails with the takedown

and Abbas counters with a shoot takedown. Keenan fights it but they end up in guard.
Keenan can't keep his opponent in guard - Abbas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Abbas passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Keenan!

Abbas with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Abbas looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Abbas prevents Keenan from getting the reversal.

Keenan regains half guard.
Abbas wants to pass the guard but Keenan is defending well.
Keenan is doing well to control the position and prevent Abbas from advancing to side control.
Abbas is pressing down on Keenan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Keenan is holding on for now.
Abbas is breathing heavily.
Keenan is trying to maintain the position but Abbas is very close to passing his half guard.
Keenan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Keenan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Abbas postures up.

Keenan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Abbas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Keenan is looking for a triangle but Abbas pushes his legs off easily.

Keenan has his hands on Abbas's head, controlling the position.

Keenan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Abbas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Abbas forces his way into half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Abbas passes to full mount!

Abbas goes for an armbar but Keenan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Keenan.
Abbas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Keenan sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Abbas wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nino Abbas will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Keenan tries a head kick but it misses.
Keenan lands a head kick. Abbas smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
A left lands for Keenan.
Keenan lands with an uppercut that bounces Abbas off the cage and back into rage.

Keenan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Keenan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Keenan wants to take a breather but Abbas is having none of it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Abbas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Keenan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Keenan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Keenan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Keenan is breathing heavily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Keenan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Keenan advances to half guard.
Abbas is looking for a sweep. Keenan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Abbas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Keenan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Keenan preventing the sweep.
Keenan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Abbas wants to sweep but no luck.
Keenan lands a couple of elbows.
Keenan trying to control the position from guard on top but Abbas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Keenan scoring with punches to the head and body.

Keenan throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Keenan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Abbas moves away.

Keenan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Keenan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Abbas is looking to improve his position but Keenan isn't that keen on the idea.

Abbas is desperately trying to improve his position but Keenan has a good base and remains in mount.
Keenan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Abbas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Keenan controlling from the full mount.
Keenan is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Abbas is in real trouble.

Keenan has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Abbas has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Rory Keenan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Keenan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Abbas avoids it really well and circles away.
Keenan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Abbas could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Keenan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Keenan throws a head kick that half lands.

Keenan shoots in and bounces Abbas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Keenan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Keenan trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Keenan stopping the sweep attempt from Abbas.
Keenan is looking to work some ground and pound but Abbas has wrist control.

Abbas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Abbas looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Keenan puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Keenan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Abbas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Keenan looking for submissions off his back.
Keenan keeping hold of Abbas's head, controlling as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Abbas trying to mount his opponent but Keenan defends it.
Keenan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Abbas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Abbas's back!
You can see the frustration on Abbas's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Keenan trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Abbas doesn't escape.
Keenan throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Abbas!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Abbas is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
You can see the frustration on Abbas's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Rory Keenan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Keenan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
