Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Njord Freyr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Sanchez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sanchez.
Freyr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Freyr can't do much from the bottom here.
Freyr on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Freyr tries to get out of the position.
Freyr tries to buck Sanchez off but Sanchez is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Freyr's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Sanchez takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Freyr misses with an uppercut.
Freyr looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well.

Sanchez looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Freyr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sanchez is fighting to break Freyr's control of his arms but Freyr is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Freyr has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Sanchez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Freyr is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Freyr wants to sweep here but Sanchez controlling him for the moment.
Freyr wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Njord Freyr just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Freyr throws a looping overhand right but Sanchez ducks down to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Freyr misses with a wild combination.
Freyr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Freyr gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sanchez has managed to clinch.
Sanchez lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Sanchez gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Freyr misses with a punch on the inside.

Sanchez breaks from the clinch.
Freyr ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sanchez moves away.
Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Freyr pinned against the cage. Freyr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sanchez fails with the takedown.
A nice combination there by Freyr.


It looks like Dan Sanchez has been cut.
Freyr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Freyr tries to bum rush Sanchez with a series of wild strikes but Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Freyr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sanchez as he avoids it easily.
Freyr lunges at Sanchez with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Sanchez's hand.
Freyr shoots in but Sanchez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Freyr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Freyr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Freyr throws a right hand that Sanchez ducks under and follows up with a left that Sanchez also avoids with ease.
Freyr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sanchez is fending him off so far but Freyr persists. Nope, Sanchez circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Njord Freyr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Freyr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Freyr tries to keep at a distance but Sanchez has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sanchez gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Freyr.

Sanchez smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

and Sanchez counters with a two punch combo.
Sanchez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Freyr takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Sanchez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Freyr misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice shot lands for Sanchez.

and Sanchez counters with a shoot takedown. Freyr fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Freyr wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sanchez is fighting to break Freyr's control of his arms but Freyr is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sanchez postures up and lands a big shot to Freyr's brow.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Freyr holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Njord Freyr just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Freyr thows a body shot but no joy.
Freyr misses the body punch
and Sanchez counters with a straight right hand.
Freyr takes a swing at Sanchez's ribcage but misses.
Freyr throws a poor cross that misses
and Sanchez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Freyr cracks Sanchez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Freyr swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Freyr throws a hook but Sanchez avoids it easily.
Sanchez takes a body punch but keeps moving.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Freyr lands with an uppercut that bounces Sanchez off the cage and back into rage.
Freyr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sanchez as he jumps to the side.
Freyr swings for the body but Sanchez moves out of range.
Sanchez has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Freyr has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sanchez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

and Sanchez counters with a big head kick but Freyr shrugs it off.

Sanchez paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Freyr shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Sanchez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Freyr's waist but Freyr gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side.

Freyr looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Freyr closes the distance and clinches up with Sanchez, looking for a takedown. Freyr pushes Sanchez against the cage but Sanchez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Freyr shoots in and bounces Sanchez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Freyr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Freyr passes Sanchez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Freyr looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Freyr is very close to passing his half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Njord Freyr.
I think Freyr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
