PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arabian Beattie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Mehoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mehoff is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Choke Sermon by Lamb of God. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arabian Beattie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Mehoff!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mehoff throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Beattie thows a body shot but no joy.
Mehoff scores with a head kick.
Beattie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mehoff throws a combination. Beattie tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Beattie throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mehoff cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Beattie misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Beattie gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mehoff to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mehoff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mehoff wants to control from the top but Beattie keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mehoff lands a jab to Beattie's midsection.
Beattie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Beattie shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Mehoff looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mehoff works his way into side control.

Mehoff working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mehoff is chipping away with strikes.

Mehoff tries for a kimura but Beattie is defending well.
Beattie is trying to buck Mehoff off.

Mehoff tries to advance to mount but Beattie denies him.
Beattie is not content to let Mehoff control the position.
Mehoff looks up at the clock and then as Beattie takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mehoff smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Beattie wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Mehoff is looking to take a break and control but Beattie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mehoff goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beattie has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mehoff but great work by Beattie.
Mehoff is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Beattie off and has taken his back!

Mehoff patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Mehoff looks gassed!
Beattie is trying to escape under a series of strikes and manages to escape from Mehoff 's hooks.
Mehoff wants to control the pace but Beattie is squirming around nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Mehoff dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Beattie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mehoff blocks a head kick by Beattie.
Mehoff lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Beattie misses with a hook.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mehoff lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Mehoff prevents the takedown attempt.
Beattie gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mehoff.
Mehoff tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Beattie smiles and moves away.

Mehoff darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mehoff is breathing heavily.
Mehoff prevents Beattie from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mehoff is just content to waste time from the top position. Beattie takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Mehoff trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Beattie manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Beattie is looking to stand up but Mehoff won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mehoff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beattie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Beattie stands and steps away. Mehoff gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nice body punch from Mehoff.
Mehoff scores with a hook to the body. Beattie takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Beattie lands a head kick. Mehoff smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Mehoff stalks Beattie and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Beattie's face. Beattie staggers backwards, shaken.
Jack Mehoff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beattie is looking to clinch.
Beattie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mehoff as he jumps to the side.
Mehoff lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Mehoff dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Beattie throws a lazy head kick

and Mehoff moves into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mehoff lands a right hand.
The referee calls for Mehoff to work.
Beattie tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mehoff cracks Beattie with a nice body shot.

Mehoff has picked Beattie up - he's going for a ride! Mehoff dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Mehoff keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Mehoff seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Beattie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mehoff looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Mehoff throwing shots but Beattie is blocking nicely.
Mehoff lands with a punch from half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mehoff is nestled in close to Beattie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Beattie is trying to stand up here but Mehoff is controlling him well.
Mehoff works his way into side control.
Mehoff is looking to take a break and control but Beattie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mehoff is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Beattie has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Beattie is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mehoff has just dragged him back down to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Mehoff showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Beattie takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mehoff tries to clinch up.
Beattie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Danga de danga de dang - Mehoff scores with a four punch combination!
Beattie throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Jack Mehoff has been cut.
Mehoff wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mehoff bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Mehoff.
Beattie throws a head kick but Mehoff moves out of range.
Beattie takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Beattie misses with an uppercut.
Jack Mehoff seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Mehoff moves into range and clinches up with Beattie.
Beattie misses with a knee to the head.
Mehoff lands an elbow that stopped Beattie in his tracks for a moment.
A nice right hand lands inside from Mehoff.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mehoff breaks the clinch.

Mehoff closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Beattie did well to prevent Mehoff getting side control.

Mehoff is trying to work for a kimura but Beattie is defending well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mehoff is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Beattie!

Mehoff trying to control but Beattie is having none of it.
Mehoff unloads with some shots from mount but Beattie bucks and avoids them well.
Beattie wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mehoff.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mehoff cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mehoff lands a big shot there that rocks Beattie but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mehoff lands a nice shot to the head.
Mehoff is trying to take his opponent's back.
Mehoff avoids the attempt from Beattie to control.

Mehoff goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Beattie turns into him and now he's in Mehoff's guard.
Beattie trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mehoff's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mehoff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beattie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mehoff looking for a sweep. Not yet Mehoff, not yet.
Mehoff looking to control.
Beattie lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Mehoff is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Beattie frees his head nicely. Oh but Mehoff has switched to an armbar! Beattie is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Jack Mehoff!
