Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Gravel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Horton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gravel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tim Horton!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horton tries to clinch up but Gravel circles away and keeps his distance.
Gravel fails with an attempt to clinch.

Gravel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Horton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Horton is trying to control Gravel's posture but Gravel avoids it.

Gravel looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Horton is not content to let Gravel control the position.
Horton is looking to regain half guard here but Gravel keeps moving and retains side control.
Horton gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Horton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Horton wants to get back to his feet.

Gravel is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Gravel looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Gravel swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Horton is now in Gravel's guard. A big mistake from Gravel there, giving up the dominant position!
Gravel can't keep his opponent in guard - Horton advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Gravel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gravel moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gravel flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Horton looking to sit in guard and control but Gravel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gravel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gravel postures up in Horton's guard and throws a big left but Horton blocks it.

Gravel gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Gravel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gravel is breathing heavily.

Gravel postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Horton to stand up.
Gravel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Horton as he jumps to the side.
Gravel throws and low kick but Horton moves out of range easily.
Horton lands a two punch combo.
Gravel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Horton doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gravel counters with a single leg into guard. Horton didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Horton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gravel gets to his feet. Horton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Horton moves in looking to clinch but Gravel pushes him off.
Gravel throws a big shot that misses.

Gravel looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Horton!
Gravel thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Horton tries to lock up and control but Gravel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gravel throws some wild stikes that Horton manages to avoid easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Gravel looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Horton!
Horton is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Gravel misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Gravel stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Gravel has Horton up against the cage in a clinch.
Gravel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Horton.
Horton wants to break free but Gravel has control.

Gravel has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Horton regains guard immediately.
Gravel trying to control the position from guard on top but Horton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gravel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gravel postures up in Horton's guard and throws a big left but Horton blocks it.

Horton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gravel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gravel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Horton is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Horton is breathing heavily.
Gravel wants a takedown.
Gravel is pressed up against the cage. Horton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gravel down to the mat. Gravel avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Horton shoots and misses

and Gravel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Horton won't be happy with that.
Mike Gravel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Horton.
Gravel cracks Horton with a big right hand but Horton just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Gravel thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gravel throwing strikes here but Horton is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Gravel drops back looking for a leg! Horton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Horton manages to kick Gravel off! Gravel jumps back into Horton's guard.

Gravel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Gravel drives through and clinches with Horton against the cage.
Horton jumps guard but Gravel stands there with Horton around his waist. Horton gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Gravel fails to pull guard.
Gravel fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Gravel prevents the takedown attempt.
Gravel doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Horton wants a takedown but no success here.
Gravel manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Gravel wants the takedown. Horton is fighting it off but Gravel persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Horton's guard against the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Gravel throws a right hand that Horton ducks under and follows up with a left that Horton also avoids with ease.

Gravel feints and as Horton raises his hands in defense, Gravel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gravel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Gravel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Horton is just riding it out for now. Gravel eventually gives up the hold.

Gravel tries to pass the half guard into mount. Horton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Horton has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gravel is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Horton.

Horton pushes Gravel off looking to stand but Gravel dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Gravel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Horton can do to turn this around?

Gravel wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Horton, who protects the arm well.
Gravel misses with the ground and pound.
Horton is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Horton throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Horton wants to control but Gravel postures up.
Gravel throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Horton works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Horton closes the distance and clinches.
Gravel has Horton pressed against the cage.

Gravel jumps into guard, dragging Horton to the mat.
Horton trying to control but Gravel is working from the bottom.
Horton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gravel seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Gravel is trying to control the position from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Gravel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gravel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
