PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marco Kolo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Idol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kolo comes to the cage accompanied by As I Lay Dying - This Is Who We Are. Billy Idol will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marco Kolo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Billy Idol!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kolo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kolo trying to control the position but Idol is working away.

Kolo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kolo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kolo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Idol pushes Kolo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kolo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Kolo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kolo swings around for an armbar but Idol sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kolo's guard.
Idol tries to free his leg and advance position but Kolo is retaining full guard.
Kolo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Idol manages to get himself to full guard.

Kolo trying to control but Idol is working from the bottom.
Idol is looking to stand up but Kolo isn't so interested in that idea.
Idol looks gassed!

Kolo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kolo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kolo passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Idol takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Kolo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kolo wants to pass the guard but Idol is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Idol works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kolo passes into half guard.
Kolo is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Idol wants to get back to full guard.

Kolo won't let Idol get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Idol holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Kolo tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Idol is working to get back to half guard.
Idol is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Kolo trying to control but Idol is having none of it.
Idol bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Idol throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kolo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Idol is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kolo is just riding it out for now. Idol eventually gives up the hold.
Kolo is trying to maintain the position but Idol is very close to passing his half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Kolo closes the distance and clinches.
Idol has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kolo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Idol is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Kolo lands a left hand.
Idol tries to pull guard but Kolo won't allow it.

Idol passes Kolo's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Kolo is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kolo is trying to control but can't.
Kolo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Idol's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Idol's back!

Idol is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kolo.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Marco Kolo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kolo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Idol throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Idol tries for a takedown but Kolo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Kolo blocks the elbow strike.
Kolo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Still in the clinch, Kolo scores with a nice short uppercut.
Kolo is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Idol connects with a couple of short punches.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Idol wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kolo has him pressed against the cage.

Kolo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Idol just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kolo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Idol's guard.

Idol has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kolo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

and Kolo counters with a lovely shot to the body.

so Idol counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Kolo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Idol can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Idol postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kolo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Idol, into his guard.
Kolo controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kolo is stalling here. Idol is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kolo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Idol has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marco Kolo will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Kolo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Idol smiles and moves away.
Kolo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Idol takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Idol is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Kolo pulls his head out easily.

Kolo stops Idol from getting back to his feet.
Kolo is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Kolo pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Idol is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

I think Kolo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
