PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brutal Rees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Matson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rees comes into the arena with Soulfly-Frontlines blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rees thumps Matson with a low kick.
Rees blocks a jab.
Rees throws a head kick but Matson moves out of range.
Rees throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rees.
Matson looks gassed!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Josh Matson has been cut.
Rees throws a hook but Matson avoids it easily.

Rees lands a left and a right that send Matson crashing to the mat, dazed. Rees thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rees throws an overhand right that lands on Matson's shoulder, as Matson tries to avoid the shot.
Rees throws a hook to the side of Matson's head but Matson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Matson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Rees tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rees throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Rees is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rees misses with a straight right.
Rees staying out of range there.
Matson throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Rees counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A decent looking cross lands there for Matson.
Rees tries to clinch but Matson is having none of it.
Rees pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rees connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Rees wants to clinch.
Matson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Rees motions for Matson to come forward. Rees throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Rees has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Rees looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Rees keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rees doesn't manage to clinch there - Matson circles away.
Matson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Matson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rees can pounce on him.

Matson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Rees loads up on a big right hand but Matson slips the punch.
Josh Matson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Rees is going to stand back up.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rees is looking to take a break and control but Matson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rees looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rees creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Rees is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Rees escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Rees. Matson shrugs it off though.
Rees throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Rees throws a sloppy head kick and Matson moves out of range easily.
Rees tries a head kick but it misses.
Rees misses with a low kick.
Rees looks to score with a jab to the body but Matson is just out of range.
The crowd cheers as Matson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Rees doesn't seem phased though.
Matson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rees looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rees throws a lazy right hand but Matson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Matson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Matson throws a right hand that Rees ducks under and follows up with a left that Rees also avoids with ease.
