Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ken Monsoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ken Monsoon has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Monsoon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Penn!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsoon tries to clinch there but Penn circles away.
Penn slaps away a takedown attempt from Monsoon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Monsoon wants to clinch up but Penn keeps it at a distance.

Monsoon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Penn manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Penn working for a triangle but Monsoon defends it easily.
Monsoon trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom.
Monsoon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Monsoon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Monsoon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground.

Penn keeping full guard, as Monsoon tries to pass.
Monsoon preventing the sweep.
Monsoon trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom.
Monsoon wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.
Penn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Monsoon tries to clinch up but Penn circles away and keeps his distance.
Monsoon tries for a takedown but Penn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Monsoon is breathing heavily.
Monsoon is looking to clinch but Penn is avoiding it.

Penn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Monsoon's guard.
Penn trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Penn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Monsoon, up you get!

Penn gets a clinch.

Penn has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Monsoon uses from the top position.

Penn looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn looking to control.
Monsoon looking to sit in guard and control but Penn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Penn stops Monsoon from standing up.

Penn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Penn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Penn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Monsoon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Monsoon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Penn trying to control but Monsoon is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Monsoon feints and then cracks Penn's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Penn down.
Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Monsoon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Penn!

Monsoon trying to control but Penn is having none of it.
Penn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Monsoon unloads with some shots from mount but Penn bucks and avoids them well.
Monsoon looking to control but Penn is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Monsoon throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Michael Penn will probably get the nod.
That's time! Monsoon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Nice sprawl there from Penn as Monsoon shoots in.
Monsoon closes the distance but Penn moves to the side

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Penn is trying to control. Monsoon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Penn lands a nice short elbow.

Penn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Monsoon is just riding it out for now. Penn eventually gives up the hold.

Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Monsoon defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Monsoon is refusing to be controlled, as Penn sits in half guard.

Penn not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Penn wants to work for an arm triangle but Monsoon is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Penn seems to be working for a kimura but Monsoon defends the submission attempt.

Monsoon is defending against the submission attempts here by Penn.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Penn thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Penn is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Penn tries for a takedown but Monsoon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Monsoon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Penn decides to pull guard.
Penn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Penn throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn keeping full guard, as Monsoon tries to pass.
Monsoon trying to control the position from guard on top but Penn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Penn has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Monsoon off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Penn takes the fight into the clinch.

Monsoon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Monsoon tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Penn counters by moving into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Penn pulls guard.

Penn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Monsoon defends well.
Monsoon throwing strikes from guard but Penn blocks nicely.
Monsoon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Monsoon wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.

Monsoon is sitting in close to Penn's body. Penn has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Monsoon is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Monsoon is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Penn.
