Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kody Corley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kody Corley!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corley tries a head kick but it misses.
Corley looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Maia swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Corley throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Corley misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Corley slaps away a takedown attempt from Maia, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Corley displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maia.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Maia.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corley tries to bum rush Maia with a series of wild strikes but Maia uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Corley pushes Maia off looking to stand but Maia dives back in and keeps control.

Maia is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Corley has managed to free his arm - good work.
Corley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Corley wants to get back to his feet.
Corley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maia wants to control but Corley is keeping him busy.
Maia is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Corley is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia is trying to work for a kimura but Corley is defending well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Corley lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Maia backs up against the cage.

Maia shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Corley napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Corley is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Maia asserts his dominance and retains side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Maia tries to score with some ground and pound. Corley controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Maia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Corley's guard.

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.

Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

That's time! Maia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Maia throws a hook to the side of Corley's head but Corley sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Corley stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Corley wants it to stay on the feet.

Corley throws a series of punches but Maia moves out of range.
Corley tries to bum rush Maia with a series of wild strikes but Maia uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Maia.
Corley lands with a kick to the temple. Maia shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Corley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Corley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Corley keeps working.

Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corley is pushing Maia's head away, looking to escape. Maia manages to hold on to the position though.

Corley sneaks out the side door and pushes Maia away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maia shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Corley sprawls well. Corley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Maia gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demian Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Corley tries to avoid it but Maia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Corley to the ground. Corley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Corley throws a series of punches but Maia avoids them all with ease.
Maia misses the shot to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kody Corley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Corley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
