Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scott Hode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rory Shachner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hode comes to the cage accompanied by Arkansas Razorback Fight Song. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hode tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shachner swivels and escapes.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

BOOM! Hode connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hode cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Hode has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hode lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Hode connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Hode has control of Shachner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Shachner regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Hode takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Hode cracks Shachner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That was a close second round but I would say that Scott Hode will probably get the nod.

Hode's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Shachner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hode's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hode bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Shachner's head.

Hode swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
