PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between killa joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). joe is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Joe Smith will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, killa joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. joe was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.
joe looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
joe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Smith wants to control from the top but joe keeps moving.
joe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Smith is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
joe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Smith tries to clinch up but joe circles away and keeps his distance.
Smith plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by joe which made him look bad.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smith has joe up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith tries to land a knee to the head but joe blocks with his arms.
Smith misses with a knee to the head.
Smith misses with a knee strike.
Smith is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Smith crunches a lovely knee into joe's ribcage.
Smith trying to stall but joe improves his position.
Smith content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Smith is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Joe Smith.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but joe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says joe as he avoids it easily.
joe keeps the fight on the outside.
joe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
killa joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Smith.
Smith shoots in but joe avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith shoots in but no luck this time.
joe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
killa joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
joe closes the distance but Smith moves to the side
and Smith counters with a head kick.

Smith clinches up with joe and pushes him back against the cage.
Smith throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Smith stalls.
joe stops a takedown attempt from Smith.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Smith dives in and grabs joe's left leg, looking for a takedown. joe pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but joe swivels and escapes.
Smith shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has joe pinned against the cage. joe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
killa joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Smith.
Smith pushes joe away with a front kick.

Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts joe as he jumps to the side.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith goes for a takedown attempt but joe pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

joe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.

joe is trying to keep Smith in close.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Smith postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
joe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
joe controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Smith gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders joe to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says joe as he avoids it easily.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as joe sprawls well. joe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into guard.
joe can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.
joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A head kick by joe misses
and Smith counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Smith feints and as joe raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith trying to control but joe is working from the bottom.

Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of joe's head.
joe trying to keep a closed guard but Smith is proving a slippery customer.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

joe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smith lands a nice short elbow.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed joe's head.

Smith thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Smith.
joe leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says joe as he avoids it easily.
killa joe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice sprawl there from joe as Smith shoots in.
killa joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Smith.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Smith throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but joe blocks it with crossed arms.
Smith stalling in the clinch.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.

joe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from joe.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts joe as he jumps to the side.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Smith keeps control of joe as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
joe changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Smith tries to clinch but joe is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A head kick misses from Smith.
Smith dives in and grabs joe's left leg, looking for a takedown. joe pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Joe Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Smith closes the distance and pushes joe back into the cage.
joe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smith pulls his leg out and moves away.
Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but joe avoids it really well and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
