PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Rob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aldo Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown has chosen Elephant Man - Haters (2009 Turn My Swag On Riddim) as his entrance music. Aldo Brown will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Rob!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aldo Brown!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rob scores with a jab to the jaw.
Brown punishes Rob's body with a nice straight punch.
Brown tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rob tries to clinch up but Brown circles away and keeps his distance.
Brown lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Brown connects with a high kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brown looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rob closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brown to the mat! Brown manages to get full guard.

Brown wants to stand but Rob is controlling the position.

Rob avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Brown is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rob defends well.
Brown keeping moving, preventing Rob from controlling successfully.

Rob gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rob is breathing heavily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brown throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Brown lands a nice hook to Rob's body. Rob takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Brown catches Rob with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Rob throws a lazy head kick
and Brown counters with a nice body shot.
Rob takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Brown tries to clinch but Rob moves away

and Rob counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Brown is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rob pulls his head out easily.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Rob is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rob is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Rob is looking to advance position but Brown won't allow it.
Brown makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brown.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Brown is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Rob will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rob blocks a head kick by Brown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown throws a wild body kick that Rob sees coming a mile off.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rob doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Brown wants to clinch up but Rob keeps it at a distance.
Rob tries to move into range but Brown moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Brown throws a combination. Rob tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Brown tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rob swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Rob counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rob trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rob in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Brown is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Rob really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Brown stalling in the clinch but Rob improves position.
Brown has Rob pressed against the cage.
Rob tries to land knees in the clinch but Brown avoids the damage to the body.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Aldo Brown.
An inside leg kick lands from Brown.
Brown feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rob's calf.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brown throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Brown gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Rob counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Brown landing knees to the head.

Brown's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Brown is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Rob rather than just go for the knockout.
Rob is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Brown.

A close second round but Aldo Brown will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Rob's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Brown moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

and Rob counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Brown is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rob is aware though and is defending well.

Brown throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rob uses it to pass to side control.
Brown is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rob asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Rob gets to mount! Brown was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Rob tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Brown tries to reverse the position but Rob maintains control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rob looking to secure an arm triangle but Brown defends it well.
Brown's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Brown regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but Mike Rob did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Aldo Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown tries to clinch there but Rob circles away.
Brown throws a series of punches but Rob moves out of range.
Rob takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Brown misses with a few strikes there.

and Rob counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Rob wants the takedown. Brown is fighting it off but Rob persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brown's guard against the cage.
Brown utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rob controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Brown is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rob is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brown looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rob has picked Brown up and slammed him! Brown can't keep hold of the triangle and Rob manages to pass to side control!

Brown bucks up and tries to throw Rob off but instead Rob has got his back!
Brown is trying to get back to his feet but Rob has full control of the position and if anything, Brown has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Brown is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Rob is controlling him well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rob is really struggling to control Brown but he's trying to hold on to the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rob is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Brown knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Brown for a finish.
Aldo Brown has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Rob is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
