PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Percy Prime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grappler Striking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Percy Prime!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grappler Striking!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Striking lands a with a good body shot.
Striking fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Prime manages to avoid it.
Striking steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Prime.
Striking lands with a straight right. Prime didn't see that one coming.
Prime misses with a few strikes there.
Striking pushes Prime away with a front kick.
Striking swings for the body but Prime moves out of range.
Prime wants to clinch up but Striking keeps it at a distance.
Prime's corner calls for a 1-2. Prime obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Horrible takedown by Striking or perhaps it was just good defense by Prime which made him look bad.
Prime tries to close the distance and clinch up but Striking swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Striking takes a swing at Prime's ribcage but misses.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Striking misses the shot to the body.
Percy Prime is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Prime slips under a jab.
Striking keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Striking changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Prime looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Striking in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prime tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Prime knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Striking on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Striking looks for a takedown but Prime sprawls well.
Prime uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Striking.

and Striking counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Prime's guard now.
Prime on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Prime tries to get out of the position.

Striking has gone for a leg lock! Prime slips out almost immediately though and dives into Striking's guard.

and Prime counters with a solid body kick.
Striking slips under a jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Prime counters with a slapping leg kick.
Prime takes a shot to the body in his stride.

That was a close second round but I would say that Percy Prime will probably get the nod.

That's time! Prime's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Striking feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Striking unloads with some shots from mount but Prime bucks and avoids them well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Striking jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Prime is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Prime and Striking has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Striking takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Prime lands a head kick. Striking smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Prime counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Percy Prime has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Grappler Striking.

Prime stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Prime wants it to stay on the feet.
Prime bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Striking is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
