The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steele fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. mayer sprawls well initially but Steele persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
mayer is looking to stand up but Steele isn't so interested in that idea.

mayer closes the distance and clinches up with Steele, looking for a takedown. mayer pushes Steele against the cage but Steele circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Steele shoots in looking for a takedown. mayer tries to sprawl out of it but Steele keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. mayer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to jose mayer.
