PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benos machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Benos machida was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
machida fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Gonzalez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
machida slow jab from Gonzalez misses its intended target.
Gonzalez takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Gonzalez looks for a takedown but machida sprawls well.
A head kick misses from machida.
machida pulls out of a head kick attempt.
machida keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gonzalez takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Gonzalez avoids the body shot from machida.

Gonzalez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in machida's guard.

machida has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gonzalez has passed into side control.
machida is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
machida tries to kick Gonzalez off but Gonzalez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

machida manages to escape and get back to his feet!
machida jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
machida is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown but machida shows good takedown defense.

Gonzalez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around machida's waist but machida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gonzalez off to one side.

Gonzalez shoots in but no luck this time.

Gonzalez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as machida throws out the jab.
machida throws the kick towards the body but Gonzalez avoids it.

Gonzalez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gonzalez showed some decent athleticism there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Gonzalez closes the distance and clinches up with machida, looking for a takedown. Gonzalez pushes machida against the cage but machida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Benos machida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
machida throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gonzalez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
machida misses with a few strikes there.
Benos machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzalez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
machida misses with a looping left.
Gonzalez has a takedown stuffed.
Gonzalez waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract machida.
machida connects with a high kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benos machida dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Gonzalez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? machida is fending him off so far but Gonzalez persists. Nope, machida circles away and we're back to standing.

machida misses the shot to the body.
Gonzalez shoots for a takedown but machida saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gonzalez needs to keep his hands up - machida had a free shot at his head there.

Gonzalez is rocked!
machida cracks Gonzalez on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Gonzalez falls backwards against the cage. machida follows up with more strikes that drop Gonzalez to his knees. machida keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Gonzalez! This one is all over!
