Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Paiva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abbott's entrance music is Cigarettes And Alcohol. A fine choice. Paiva has chosen Breaveheart Soundtrack as his entrance music. The key to victory for Frank Abbott has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raphael Paiva!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paiva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Abbott circles away quickly and effectively.

Paiva closes the distance and pushes Abbott back into the cage.

Paiva breaks from the clinch.
Paiva takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Paiva tries to clinch there but Abbott circles away.
Paiva throws a jab but it's blocked by Abbott.
A big right from Paiva misses.
Abbott stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Paiva drops his hands momentarily and Abbott takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Abbott scores with a jab to the jaw.
Abbott lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Paiva ducks under a wild hook from Abbott.
Paiva walks into a jab.

Abbott closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Abbott misses with a short punch on the inside.
Abbott lands a left hand that snaps the head of Paiva backwards.

A short right from Abbott.
Abbott throws a head punch that misses.
Abbott throws a punch but it's blocked by Paiva.
Paiva blocks an elbow strike from Abbott.
Abbott blocks an uppercut.
Abbott lands a body punch.
Abbott misses with the head strike.
Paiva scores with a shot to the side of Abbott's head.
Abbott misses with some punches.
Abbott prevents the takedown attempt.
Paiva blocks an uppercut.
Paiva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Abbott avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Paiva drops down looking for an ankle pick but Abbott pulls his leg out and moves away.
Frank Abbott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raphael Paiva.
Paiva takes one on the chin but seems OK.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Paiva pulls guard effortlessly.

Paiva looking for a sweep. Not yet Paiva, not yet.
Abbott missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Paiva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Abbott tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Paiva goes for an armbar but Abbott turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Abbott.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paiva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Paiva swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Abbott is now in Paiva's guard. A big mistake from Paiva there, giving up the dominant position!
Abbott has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Abbott trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Abbott sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Paiva's guard.
Paiva regains full guard. Nicely done.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Abbott dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Abbott keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Paiva misses with a wild body shot.

Abbott darts in and clinches Paiva up against the cage.
Abbott's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Abbott fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Paiva has Abbott pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Paiva pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Abbott tumbling to the mat - Paiva dives into Abbott's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abbott tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Paiva wants to pass the guard but Abbott is keeping the position.

Paiva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Abbott manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Paiva has Abbott in his guard.

Abbott slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Abbott is looking to take a break and control but Paiva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Paiva manages to work his way to half guard, despite Abbott's best efforts.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Paiva works his way to full guard. Good work.

Abbott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Paiva is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Abbott, into his guard.

Paiva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Paiva is stalling here. Abbott is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Paiva seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Abbott has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Abbott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Paiva keeps working.

Abbott working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Paiva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Paiva is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Abbott is just riding it out for now. Paiva eventually gives up the hold.
Paiva thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Abbott's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raphael Paiva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Paiva lands a glancing blow to the side of Abbott's head.
Raphael Paiva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Paiva wants to clinch up but Abbott keeps it at a distance.
Abbott ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Paiva tries for a takedown but Abbott manages to get underhooks.
Paiva blocks the elbow strike.

Paiva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Abbott is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Abbott darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Paiva throws out a powerful jab.
Abbott thuds a left hand into Paiva's body.
Abbott keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Abbott blocks a jab.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Paiva lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Abbott has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Abbott and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Abbott moves out of range of the strikes.
Abbott is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Nice shot lands for Abbott.
Paiva misses with a low kick.
Paiva walks into a jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Paiva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Paiva throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Abbott makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Paiva walks into a stiff left hand from Abbott.

Abbott moves into range and connects with a jab.
Paiva misses with a double jab
and Abbott counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Paiva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Abbott keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Paiva.
Abbott lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Raphael Paiva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paiva circles away from the clinch attempt
letting Paiva counter with a right hand.
Jab, jab by Abbott - just one landing.
Frank Abbott is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Abbott moves out of range of the strikes.
Paiva jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Paiva throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Paiva missing with a left hand there. Abbott was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Abbott moves into the clinch successfully.
Abbott lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Paiva stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Abbott tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Paiva manages to break the clinch.
Paiva is looking to clinch but Abbott is avoiding it.
Abbott dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Paiva is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Abbott.

and Paiva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Paiva.

Paiva is looking for a kimura but Abbott is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paiva to get the leverage.

Paiva gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Paiva throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Abbott counters with a right hand to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Paiva swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Abbott counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Abbott lands a lovely overhand right.
Paiva on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Paiva throws a left and a right that both miss
and Abbott counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Paiva takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Paiva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Abbott ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank Abbott.
I think Abbott has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
