PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damien Brisebois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janne Korpi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Janne Korpi will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damien Brisebois!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Janne Korpi!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korpi tries to clinch up but Brisebois circles away and keeps his distance.
Brisebois swats away the attempt to clinch by Korpi.

Korpi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Korpi wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Brisebois uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Korpi wants to stand and escape but instead Brisebois has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Korpi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brisebois controls the pace.
Brisebois stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Korpi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brisebois controls from within his opponent's guard.

Brisebois slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Brisebois moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Brisebois decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Korpi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Janne Korpi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brisebois darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Korpi is not content to let Brisebois control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brisebois in particular looking to stall.

Brisebois decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brisebois keeps the fight on the outside.
Brisebois avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Brisebois dodges the punch combination from Korpi.
Korpi doesn't manage to clinch there - Brisebois circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Brisebois.
Korpi fails to land with a series of punches.

Brisebois has Korpi up against the cage in a clinch.
Korpi misses with a knee strike.
Korpi looks gassed!

Brisebois has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Korpi is trying to keep an underhook but Brisebois manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Brisebois looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Brisebois not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Brisebois scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Korpi doesn't seem bothered though.
Korpi stuffs the takedown.
Korpi looks to clinch
and Brisebois counters with a body kick that stops Korpi in his tracks momentarily.

Brisebois moves into the clinch.
Brisebois avoiding damage.

Brisebois has picked Korpi up - he's going for a ride! Brisebois dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Brisebois drops an elbow to the side of Korpi's head.
Brisebois stalling.

Brisebois decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Korpi wants to clinch but Brisebois slips to the side

and Brisebois counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Brisebois winds up and cracks Korpi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Korpi is breathing heavily.
Brisebois uses his free foot to push down on Korpi's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Korpi.

Brisebois cracks Korpi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Brisebois takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Brisebois has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Brisebois's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A nice elbow there by Brisebois.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Damien Brisebois just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Korpi does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Korpi dodges the punch combination from Brisebois.

Brisebois feints and as Korpi raises his hands in defense, Brisebois changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brisebois is pushing down on Korpi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Korpi is fighting to maintain full guard but Brisebois has managed to sneak the leg through.

Brisebois is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Korpi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brisebois.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Brisebois decides to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Brisebois dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Brisebois is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Korpi's half guard.
Brisebois is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Brisebois wants to control but Korpi is keeping him busy.
Korpi is trying to stand back up but Brisebois is controlling him
Korpi throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Korpi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Brisebois looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Korpi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Brisebois looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Brisebois stands up and beckons Korpi to join him on the feet.
Korpi tries to clinch but Brisebois moves away

and Brisebois counters with a takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brisebois stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Brisebois shoots in and bounces Korpi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Korpi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Brisebois is pushing down on Korpi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Korpi is fighting to maintain full guard but Brisebois has managed to sneak the leg through.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brisebois looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Brisebois seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Damien Brisebois is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damien Brisebois showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brisebois has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
