PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Blaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Genghis Khan has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Blaze!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Columbo Gatti and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blaze moves into the clinch.
Blaze has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Khan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Khan is working for takedown but Blaze is calmly controlling the position for now.
Blaze will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Khan up against the ropes.
Blaze prevents a takedown attempt there.

Khan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Blaze is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Khan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Khan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Blaze is looking for a sweep.
Khan trying to control the action but Blaze is working from the bottom.
Khan advances to mount.

Khan working for a guillotine from mount but Blaze is in no mood to give up.
Blaze regains half guard.

Khan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Khan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Blaze defends it well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Khan is breathing heavily.
Khan stops Blaze from getting back to his feet.
Blaze moves into full guard.
Khan sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Blaze's guard.

Khan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Blaze works his way to full guard. Good work.
Khan prevents Blaze from getting back to his feet.
Blaze not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Khan wants to pass the guard but Blaze is keeping the position.
Khan won't allow Blaze to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A clash of legs there as Blaze blocks the low kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A combination from Khan does no damage.
Genghis Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blaze cracks a nice hook into Khan's ribs.
Blaze shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khan pinned against the cage. Khan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Blaze closes the distance and clinches up with Khan, looking for a takedown. Blaze pushes Khan against the ropes but Khan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Genghis Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Blaze.
Blaze shoots for a double leg takedown but Khan sprawls well. He's pushed Blaze's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Khan throws a body punch but Blaze moves out of range.
Khan stuffs the takedown.

Blaze swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Khan stalks Blaze and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Blaze's face. Blaze staggers backwards, shaken.
Blaze throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khan's waist but Khan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Blaze off to one side.
Khan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Blaze takes a jab right on the kisser.

Khan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genghis Khan dominated that round.
That's time! Khan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Blaze takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Khan swats away the attempt to clinch by Blaze.
Khan throws a sloppy body shot
and Blaze counters with a two punch combo.
Khan misses with a combination

and Blaze holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Blaze has Khan pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Khan manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Khan doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Khan tries to stall but Blaze uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Blaze breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Blaze throws a head kick that misses.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Blaze.
Blaze swats away the attempt to clinch by Khan.
Blaze with a poor takedown
and Khan counters with a thumping low kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Khan lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Khan jabs at Blaze's body.
Khan dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Khan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Khan takes a swing at Blaze's ribcage but misses.
Blaze is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Blaze tries to score a power double leg takedown but Khan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Blaze somewhat.
Genghis Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Blaze.
Khan throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Genghis Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Blaze.

Khan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Blaze doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khan.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Khan swings for the body but Blaze moves out of range.
Blaze tries to clinch
and Khan counters with a three punch combo that has Blaze backing up. Blaze nods at Khan to acknowledge the strikes.

and Blaze counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Blaze.

Blaze lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Blaze turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Blaze manages to end up in side control.
Khan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Blaze ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Blaze no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Khan is thwarting Blaze's attempts to control the position.

Khan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Blaze defends it well.

Khan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Khan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Blaze utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Blaze throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Khan throws a strike but Blaze rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Blaze misses with a double jab.
Blaze tries to clinch up.
Khan lands a two punch combo.

Khan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Blaze looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Khan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Blaze has escaped the position, nice work there.

Khan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Genghis Khan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Genghis Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Khan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
