The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Paulus stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Mendez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mendez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mendez misses with a few strikes there.
Paulus moves forwards but Mendez connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A big right from Mendez misses.
Paulus looks for a takedown but Mendez sprawls well.
Paulus fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Mendez drops Paulus with a beautiful combination! Paulus stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mendez is looking for the KO!

It looks like Rudolph Paulus has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mendez digs a good body shot into Paulus's ribs.
Paulus takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Paulus is breathing heavily.
Mendez stuns Paulus with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Paulus needs to keep his hands up - Mendez had a free shot at his head there.
