Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renzo Alves!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Alves flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Alves throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Maia seems to be working for a kimura but Alves defends the submission attempt.
Alves works his way to full guard. Good work.
Alves trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves looking for a sweep. Not yet Alves, not yet.

Maia drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alves looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alves looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alves!
Alves trying to control the action but Maia is working from the bottom.

Alves thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Maia sneaks back into half guard.
Maia is trying to get back to full guard.
Alves wants to take a breather but Maia is having none of it.
Maia trying to hold on to Alves's head to control him but Alves postures up.
Maia tries to roll over but Alves keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maia regains full guard. Nicely done.

Alves got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maia has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alves has managed to get both his arms back between Maia's legs - danger averted.
Alves tries to stand but Maia is controlling from the bottom.

Maia is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alves is aware though and is defending well.
Maia is breathing heavily.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Maia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alves has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Maia is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Alves trying to stand up but can't free himself from Maia's guard.

Alves wants to control from the top but Maia keeps moving.
Maia trying to keep a closed guard but Alves is proving a slippery customer.
Alves tries to free his leg and advance position but Maia is retaining full guard.
Alves trying to control but Maia is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Alves has his takedown stuffed

and Maia counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Alves won't allow Maia to pass to mount.

Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Maia is thwarting Alves's attempts to control the position.
Alves wants to stand back up but Maia manages to pass into side control.
Alves struggling a bit here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Maia dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Alves gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Maia stops Alves from standing up.
Alves is trying to keep Maia in close.
Maia passes Alves's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alves is trying to get back to full guard.
Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maia is working away from the top position though.

Maia is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Alves has managed to free his arm - good work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maia is looking for a kimura but Alves is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage.

Alves looks like he's trying to stand up.

Maia is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Alves pulls Maia in close to prevent any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Maia has gone for a leg lock! Alves slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maia's guard.
Alves throwing strikes from guard but Maia blocks nicely.
Alves throws a big right hand that misses.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maia is on top in guard.
Alves pulls Maia in close to prevent any damage.
Maia won't allow Alves to get back to his feet.

Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Alves wants to sweep but no luck.

Alves looking for a guillotine here but Maia defends easily.
Maia wants to pass the guard but Alves is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Maia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Alves is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maia, into his guard.
Alves is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him.
Alves trying to control but Maia is working from the bottom.

Maia is looking for a triangle but Alves pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alves is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Maia dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Maia counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alves won't be happy with that.

Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Alves knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Maia goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Alves has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Maia but great work by Alves.
Alves is looking to take a break and control but Maia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Alves might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Maia kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Alves is trying to get an arm triangle but Maia is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maia tries to buck Alves off but Alves is having none of it.
Alves tries to stand but Maia is controlling his head.
Maia sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Maia is pressing down on Alves's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Maia keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
Alves postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Maia looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Alves passes into half guard.

Maia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alves pulls his head out easily.
Alves works his way into side control.
The strikes coming from Alves are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Maia tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Alves presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Alves throws some wild stikes that Maia manages to avoid easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alves looking to ground and pound but Maia is blocking nicely.
Ryan Maia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Maia tries to improve his position but instead Alves has taken his back!
Alves wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.
Maia can't escape the position.
Alves misses with punches from the back.
Alves has the hooks in. Maia is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Maia is trying to break free.
Alves trying to control.

Ryan Maia showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Maia has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
