Hicks comes to the cage accompanied by Bang Your Head. Jesse Springfield has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Bill Hicks's chin.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Springfield!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hicks will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bill Hicks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Springfield gets a clinch.
Springfield throws a knee to the head but misses.

Hicks wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Springfield has him pressed against the cage.

Springfield throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hicks blocks it with crossed arms.

Springfield jumps guard but Hicks stands there with Springfield around his waist. Springfield gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Springfield has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hicks regains guard immediately.
Springfield won't allow Hicks to sweep him here.

Hicks has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Springfield can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hicks manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Springfield is looking to improve his position but Hicks isn't that keen on the idea.

Hicks looking to secure an arm triangle but Springfield defends it well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Hicks seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Springfield is holding on tight.
Hicks postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Springfield looks a forlorn figure.

Springfield had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hicks is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Springfield Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hicks's back instead.

Springfield is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hicks defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hicks manages to reverse the position and now he's in Springfield's guard. Nice work there by Hicks.

Springfield can't keep his opponent in guard - Hicks advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Hicks is looking for a kimura but Springfield is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hicks to get the leverage.

Hicks is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Springfield is just riding it out for now. Hicks eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hicks tries to control but Springfield wriggling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bill Hicks will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Horrible takedown by Hicks or perhaps it was just good defense by Springfield which made him look bad.
Hicks moves into range and connects with a jab.
Springfield tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hicks swivels and escapes.
Springfield wants to clinch up but Hicks keeps it at a distance.

Hicks fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Springfield tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hicks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hicks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hicks shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bill Hicks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hicks misses with a wild combination.
Springfield is looking to clinch but Hicks is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Springfield closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hicks to the mat! Hicks manages to get full guard.
Springfield wants to pass the guard but Hicks is keeping the position.

Springfield avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hicks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hicks lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Springfield!
Springfield is breathing heavily.
Hicks moves to take his opponent's back.
Hicks lands punches and elbows.
Springfield is covering up but some of the strikes from Hicks are getting through and doing damage.

Hicks has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Springfield.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hicks is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Springfield won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Hicks off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Bill Hicks!
