PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ippo Mash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Logan Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ippo Mash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Logan Ryan!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mash looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mash trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mash is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mash lands a couple of digs.
Ryan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryan keeping full guard, as Mash tries to pass.

Ryan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mash trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ryan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ryan fails with the takedown

and Mash counters with a shoot takedown. Ryan fights it but they end up in guard.

Mash has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ryan is proving hard to escape from.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ryan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ryan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mash with a lazy takedown attempt

and Ryan counters with a shoot takedown. Mash fights it but they end up in guard.

Ryan wants to control from the top but Mash keeps moving.
Ryan controls from within his opponent's guard.

Ryan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mash swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mash wants to sweep but no luck.

Mash pushes Ryan off and scrambles back to his feet.
Ryan doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mash counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mash is trying to control the action in half guard but Ryan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ippo Mash dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Mash shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Ryan tries to lock up and control but Mash gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ryan manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Ippo Mash overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mash perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like Mash is going to stand back up.

Mash decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Ryan tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Mash counters with a head kick.

Ryan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ryan is trying to get an arm triangle but Mash is defending well.
Mash can't do much from the bottom here.
Mash is trying to improve his position.
Ryan in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Mash is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ryan off and has taken his back!
Ryan wants to control his opponent's hands but Mash gets his hands free.
Mash is controlling the position but Ryan somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Mash wants to stand but Ryan has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Ryan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Ryan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mash is aware though and is defending well.
Mash slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mash tries to stand but Ryan is controlling from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ryan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mash wants to pass the guard but Ryan is keeping the position.

Ryan is working an open guard so Mash takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Ryan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Logan Ryan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Mash's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Mash misses with a head kick.
Ryan throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ryan scoring well with a low kick there.
Mash shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ryan counters by clinching up.
Ryan wants a takedown but no success here.
Mash fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ryan tries to score a body lock takedown but Mash shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mash unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Ryan stalling in the clinch but Mash improves position.
Mash goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ryan prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ippo Mash. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mash gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Mash pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ryan is keeping the position for now.
Ryan is striking but Mash is not phased and passes to half guard.
Ryan wants to control but Mash is keeping busy.
Mash is just content to waste time from the top position. Ryan takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Mash wanted to stand there but Ryan had control of the position.

Mash might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mash trying to control but Ryan is working from the bottom.

Mash throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ryan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ryan wants to stand and escape but Mash is having none of it.

Ryan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ryan controls Mash momentarily but Mash frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mash stands and steps away. Ryan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mash misses with a takedown attempt

and Ryan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mash!
Mash regains half guard.

Ryan stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Ryan looks to clinch
and Mash counters with a series of strikes. Ryan will be more careful next time no doubt.

Mash pushes Ryan up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mash tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ryan smiles and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ippo Mash.
I think Mash has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
