PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joel Night (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stavros Drivas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drivas has chosen Rob Hubbard - Commando as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stavros Drivas!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Night ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Drivas moves away.
Drivas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Night swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Drivas keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Night's efforts to push away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Night has had enough of the clinch but Drivas keeps him there for the moment.

Night is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Drivas defends well.

Drivas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Night has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Drivas has managed to get both his arms back between Night's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Drivas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Night had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Drivas defends it easily.
Night is breathing heavily.
Drivas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Night's head.

Drivas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Drivas is working Night over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Drivas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Drivas tries to land a front kick but Night steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Drivas closes the distance but Night moves to the side
and Night counters with a straight right hand.

Drivas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Stavros Drivas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Drivas lands a nice forearm strike.
Drivas has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Night!

Night is looking to improve his position but Drivas isn't that keen on the idea.

Drivas is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Night goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Drivas!
