PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rickson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tessie. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paddy Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Ryan instigates a clinch.
Ryan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ryan throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Ryan is pushing Gracie up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Ryan lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Ryan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ryan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Gracie could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ryan gets the takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ryan tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gracie's legs.
Ryan scores with punches from side control.
Gracie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gracie sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Gracie regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ryan's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Gracie is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ryan scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Gracie wants to control but Ryan is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ryan lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ryan throws a strike but Gracie avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Ryan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ryan postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.
Ryan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ryan cracks Gracie with a solid left hand.
Ryan distracts Gracie with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ryan throws and elbow that misses. Gracie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ryan's guard. Nice move by Gracie!
Gracie wants to control from the top but Ryan keeps moving.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ryan pulls Gracie in close to his closed guard and prevents Gracie from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ryan looking for a sweep. Not yet Ryan, not yet.
Ryan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gracie stopping the sweep attempt from Ryan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ryan gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gracie being controlled here momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ryan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie trying to control but Ryan is working from the bottom.
Ryan has Gracie pulled in close to control his posture.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ryan wants to sweep here but Gracie controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paddy Ryan dominated that round.
That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ryan cracks Gracie with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ryan leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ryan darts in and clinches Gracie up against the cage.
Ryan lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ryan digs a right hand into Gracie's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Gracie's gas tank.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ryan breaks the clinch.

Ryan with a dominant takedown and that's winded Gracie.

Gracie is rocked!

Ryan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Oh Gracie is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ryan sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Gracie's defenses. It connects perfectly with Gracie's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paddy Ryan!
