PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Bone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jacob Bone!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bone has time to react.

Sullivan gets a takedown into half guard.
Bone is trying to control but can't.

Sullivan seems to be working for a kimura but Bone defends the submission attempt.
Bone tries to get to full guard but Sullivan has control of the leg.

Sullivan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bone sees it coming and defends easily.
Sullivan prevents Bone from improving his position.

Bone looking for submissions off his back.
Bone pushes Sullivan off looking to stand but Sullivan dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sullivan shoots in for a takedown but Bone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sullivan drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sullivan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bone.
Bone throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sullivan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sullivan slips under a jab.
Bone jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Sullivan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sullivan controlling from the top position.
Bone is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sullivan tries to free his leg and advance position but Bone is retaining full guard.
Sullivan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sullivan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sullivan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Bone controls Sullivan momentarily but Sullivan frees himself.
Sullivan forces his way into half guard.
Bone pushes Sullivan off looking to stand but Sullivan dives back in and keeps control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bone throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Sullivan takes the fight into the clinch.
Bone trying to stall but Sullivan improves his position.
Bone lands on the inside with an uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Bone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bone throws a jab but it's blocked by Sullivan.
Bone throws a hook to the side of Sullivan's head but Sullivan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A big left from Bone misses.
Bone throws a series of punches but Sullivan avoids them all with ease.
Bone slaps away a takedown attempt from Sullivan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Sullivan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sullivan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sullivan showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bone is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sullivan passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Sullivan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Sullivan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sullivan lands a slapping body shot.
Bone throws a head kick but Sullivan moves out of range.
Sullivan ducks under a wild hook from Bone.
Sullivan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bone.
Bone throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Bone attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Bone tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sullivan was well out of range. Poor timing from Bone.
Bone throws a hook to the side of Sullivan's head but Sullivan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bone misses with a low kick.
Sullivan staying out of range there.

Bone closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sullivan wants to control but Bone is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sullivan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bone prevents Sullivan from standing back up.
Bone is breathing heavily.
Bone looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sullivan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bone is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Sullivan pulls Bone in close to his closed guard and prevents Bone from doing any damage or advancing position.
Sullivan keeping moving, preventing Bone from controlling successfully.

Sullivan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bone defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bone tries to free his leg and advance position but Sullivan is retaining full guard.
Bone would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Bone postures up in Sullivan's guard and throws a big left but Sullivan blocks it.

Bone is trying to land a reversal but Sullivan doesn't like that idea too much. He pushed the legs to the side and dives into side control. He's managed to grab a loose arm triangle. Sullivan is tightening it up though! This could be trouble for Bone! Bone trying desperately to escape but he's gone limp! He's out! Wooooorld class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Sullivan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Paul Sullivan!
