Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Magnum P I (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thor Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood has chosen Pendulum - Self vs Self as his entrance music. Magnum P I could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Thor Wood's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
P I avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wood pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
P I wants to clinch.
P I shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wood but Wood pushes him off and we're back to square one.

P I forces Wood back against the cage and clinches.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by P I as Wood tries to tie him up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wood misses with a body punch.
P I misses with a hook to the ribs.
A quick uppercut on the inside from P I.

P I has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Wood dodges the ground and pound from P I.

Wood tries to buck P I off but P I is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wood tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but P I wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

P I thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wood takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

P I wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wood, who protects the arm well.
P I tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Wood sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

P I wants to work for an arm triangle but Wood is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wood is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
P I throwing shots but Wood is blocking nicely.
Wood wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
P I missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Wood trying to hold on to P I's head to control him but P I postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wood fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wood is looking to slow P I down with leg kicks.
Wood keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wood keeps the fight on the outside.
Wood lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Wood pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
P I shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wood but Wood pushes him off and we're back to square one.
P I misses with a kick to the body.
Wood throws a front kick aimed at P I's knee but P I avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Magnum P I dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Magnum P I's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wood stuffs the takedown.
P I throws a looping overhand right but Wood ducks down to avoid it.
P I looks to score with a jab to the body but Wood is just out of range.
Wood looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Wood throws a leg kick which misses P I's front leg but catches the back leg as P I tries to avoid it.
Horrible takedown by P I or perhaps it was just good defense by Wood which made him look bad.
Wood looks to clinch

and P I counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wood won't be happy with that.
P I throws a strike aimed at the side of Wood's head but Wood avoids it well.
P I working the body and head with strikes.
Wood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with P I. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wood takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
P I working away.
Wood tries to get back to half guard but can't.

P I throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

P I swings around for an armbar but Wood sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into P I's guard.
Wood trying to control the position from guard on top but P I is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
P I is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
P I not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
P I not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nice strikes from P I there.
Wood is looking for a sweep. P I is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
P I seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wood desperately trying to maintain half guard.
P I looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Wood is looking to improve his position.
P I uses his free foot to push down on Wood's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wood.

P I throws some wild stikes that Wood manages to avoid easily.
P I pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Wood taking shots to the head.
P I lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Wood hang on?
Wood is wriggling around trying to escape.
Wood is bucking up trying to escape but P I cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

P I working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Wood keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, P I cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

P I goes for an armbar but Wood turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Wood.
Wood pushing down on P I's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
P I manages to get to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
P I looking for a sweep. Not yet P I, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Wood misses with an uppercut. P I saw that one coming.
Wood tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but P I was well out of range. Poor timing from Wood.
P I tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Wood counters with a thumping low kick.
P I avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

P I changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wood looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wood defending against the ground and pound.
P I wants to control but Wood is keeping him busy.
Wood is looking to reverse the position.

P I thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Wood is desperately trying to improve his position but P I has a good base and remains in mount.
P I with good strikes from the mount here!
Wood is in a horrible position here. P I smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Wood tries to get back to half guard but can't.

P I working for a guillotine from mount but Wood is in no mood to give up.
Wood tries to hold on but P I postures up.

P I looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
P I with the ground and pound from mount.
P I raining down shots from the mount!
P I has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Wood's face.
P I tries to control but Wood wriggling away.
P I prevents Wood from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Magnum P I clearly takes that round.
The cut man is working on Magnum P I's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


P I wants to clinch up but Wood keeps it at a distance.
Wood lands a nice looking body kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from P I.
Wood scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Wood takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Wood connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Wood buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
P I shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wood looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Wood looks to land a right hand but P I moved out of range.
Wood throws a quick inside leg kick.
Wood buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Wood will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wood.

P I thows a left - swing and a miss!
P I checks a leg kick nicely.
P I has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Wood.
Wood throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wood throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

P I rushes Wood and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wood misses with a body punch.
P I misses with the head strike.
A short right from P I on the inside.
P I tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wood smiles and moves away.
P I is looking to clinch.

P I throws a jab when Wood was well out of range.
A solid leg kick lands there for Wood.
P I tries to clinch
and Wood counters with a good low kick that P I was not able to check.
Wood throws a low kick but it's checked well by P I.

Wood doesn't manage to clinch there - P I circles away.
P I shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wood as he avoids it easily.

Wood is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by P I.
P I shoots in for a double leg but Wood sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
P I circles away from the clinch attempt
and P I counters with a straight right hand.

P I tries to clinch there but Wood circles away.
Thor Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

P I looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wood trying to control but P I postures up.
P I throwing shots but Wood is blocking nicely.

P I is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wood has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wood tries to get to full guard but P I has control of the leg.

P I looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
P I throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Wood moves into full guard.
Wood keeping moving, preventing P I from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
P I on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wood keeps the fight on the outside.
Thor Wood is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
P I dives in and grabs Wood's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes down on P I's head and hops out.
Wood leaves P I with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wood feints and then cracks P I's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow P I down.

P I tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wood paws at him with a jab and circles away.
P I will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Wood takes a swing at P I's ribcage but misses.

P I moves into range and clinches up with Wood.
Wood is pushing P I up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Wood is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. P I is defending well for now.

P I has Wood pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. P I pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wood tumbling to the mat - P I dives into Wood's guard.
P I pushing down on Wood's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Thor Wood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

P I throws and elbow that misses. Wood uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in P I's guard. Nice move by Wood!
