PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calvagh Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Palaver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palaver has chosen Coolio - Gangsta´s Paradise as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Junior Palaver is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Calvagh Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Palaver!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palaver shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reed as he avoids it easily.

Reed decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Reed controlling the action here.
Palaver misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Palaver works his way to full guard. Good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reed trying to control but Palaver is working from the bottom.
Palaver is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Reed blocking the ground and pound attempt from Palaver.
Reed is concentrating on defense, preventing Palaver from advancing position.
Reed is looking to escape.
Reed keeping control of the position.
Palaver throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Palaver not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Reed is trying to stand.
Reed wants to control but Palaver is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Palaver is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Reed breaks from the clinch.
Palaver tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice sprawl there from Reed as Palaver shoots in.
Palaver looks gassed!

Reed darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Reed is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Palaver tries to kick Reed off but Reed keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Reed works his foot free and advances to mount.
Reed can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Palaver is looking to escape.
Reed tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Palaver is trying to escape the mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Reed is going olschool here, as he tries to force Palaver to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Palaver shrugs it off.
Reed prevents Palaver from getting the reversal.
Reed will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Palaver in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Palaver really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Reed trying to control but Palaver is having none of it.
Palaver is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reed controlling his opponent.
Reed cracks Palaver with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Reed controlling from mount.
Reed trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Palaver is desperately trying to improve his position but Reed has a good base and remains in mount.

Reed has control of Palaver's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Palaver regains control of the situation pretty easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvagh Reed dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Palaver with a lazy takedown attempt
and Reed counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Palaver tries to close the distance and clinch but Reed swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Palaver fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reed, pushing him back against the cage.
Reed has Palaver pressed against the cage.

Palaver successfully pulls guard.
Reed has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Palaver keeping moving, preventing Reed from controlling successfully.
Reed preventing the sweep.
Reed passes Palaver's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Reed drops an elbow to the side of Palaver's head.

Reed looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Palaver is looking for a sweep. Reed is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Palaver is breathing heavily.

Reed performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Palaver wants to improve his position but Reed is controlling well.

Reed decides to return to a standing position.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Palaver paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Palaver misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Reed clinches with his opponent.
Reed wants a takedown.
Palaver is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Reed pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Calvagh Reed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Palaver.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reed lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Palaver.

Reed successfully pulls guard.
Reed has his hands on Palaver's head, controlling the position.

Reed pushes a forearm under Palaver's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Palaver is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Calvagh Reed!
