PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jethro Tull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Tull might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Aqualung - Jethro Tull. Jethro Tull could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Joe Bean's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jethro Tull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Bean!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bean drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bean looking to sit in guard and control but Tull gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Tull trying to control the position from guard on top but Bean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tull being controlled here momentarily.

Tull stands and steps away. Bean gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bean steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tull. That one must have hurt.
Bean looks gassed!

Bean tries to keep at a distance but Tull has taken the fight into the clinch.
Tull tries a knee to the head but Bean blocks it.
Bean fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Tull looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Bean stops a takedown attempt from Tull.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tull pushes Bean back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Tull breaks the clinch.
Tull swinging wilding here.
Bean misses with a double jab
and Tull counters with a nice leg kick.

Tull closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Tull lands a good knee to the midsection. Bean won't want to take too many of those.
Tull stalling.
Tull drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bean pulls his leg out and moves away.
Bean keeps the fight on the outside.
Tull wants to clinch.
Bean throws a combination that misses
and Tull connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Tull with a poor takedown

and Bean counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tull!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jethro Tull. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bean tries to control but Tull wriggling away.
Tull gets back to half guard.
Tull preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tull looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bean wants to pass to mount but Tull is defending the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Tull tries to clinch but Bean moves out of range.
Tull shoots in looking for a takedown. Bean tries to sprawl out of it but Tull keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bean manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tull has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Bean gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tull.
Bean tries for a takedown but Tull manages to get underhooks.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Tull obliges.

Bean jumps guard.
Tull is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bean looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tull puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Bean is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Tull's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tull shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bean defends it nicely.
Joe Bean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tull shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bean as he jumps to the side.
Tull doesn't manage to clinch there - Bean circles away.

Bean darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bean is pressing down on Tull's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tull is holding on for now.

Bean is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bean is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Bean is keen to just control but Tull is a slippery customer.
Tull gets back to full guard.
Bean wants to pass the guard but Tull is keeping the position.

Tull trying to hold on to Bean's head to control him but Bean postures up.
Bean is trying to control the action in half guard but Tull is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bean working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Tull's thigh. Tull counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Bean throwing strikes but missing.
Bean trying to control the position from guard on top but Tull is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tull lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Tull closes the distance looking to clinch

and Bean counters with a single leg into guard. Tull didn't expect that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bean drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tull dives on top into guard.
Tull stopping the sweep attempt from Bean.
Tull trying to control the position from guard on top but Bean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bean manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Tull is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Bean showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bean is defended easily by Tull.
Tull has his takedown stuffed

and Bean counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tull won't be happy with that.
You can see the frustration on Tull's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Tull is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bean's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Bean throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tull works his way to full guard. Good work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tull is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bean has gone for a leg lock! Tull slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bean's guard.
Bean is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tull gets to his feet - Bean follows without any prompting.
Tull misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bean.

Bean is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Tull to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Bean pushes down on Tull's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bean thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bean is thwarting Tull's attempts to control the position.
