The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nottingham avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nice defenses there by Vargas.

Nottingham fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vargas sprawls well initially but Nottingham persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nottingham thows a huge punch but Vargas dodges it nicely.
Vargas is trying to get back to full guard.
Vargas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nottingham. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nottingham shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Vargas is trying to defend but Nottingham finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Nottingham has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Vargas is looking for a sweep. Nottingham is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nottingham is looking to take a break and control but Vargas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vargas is squirming around, avoiding Nottingham's attempts to control the action.

Vargas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Nottingham cracks Vargas with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Nottingham is landing with some decent strikes but Vargas is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Vargas avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Vargas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nottingham was covering up waiting for the punch and Vargas finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Nottingham is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Nottingham wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vargas keeps working.
