PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danny Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Thornton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Thornton's choice of entrance music: Orgasmatron. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Harper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Greg Thornton!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harper on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Harper is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thornton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Thornton looks to land a combination but Harper avoids it well.
The fighters circling - Thornton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Thornton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Thornton is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Harper is controlling him.
Harper trying to control the position from guard on top but Thornton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Harper has gone for a leg lock! Thornton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Harper's guard.

Thornton decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Harper, up you get!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thornton throws the left hand but Harper avoids the punch easily.
Thornton throws a right and a left that both miss.
Thornton moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Thornton throws a hook to the side of Harper's head but Harper sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Harper uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thornton.

Harper closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Harper lands in his opponent's guard.

Harper is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Thornton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Thornton has escaped and now he's on top!

Thornton stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Thornton throws a series of punches but Harper avoids them all with ease.
Thornton misses with an uppercut. Harper saw that one coming.
Greg Thornton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thornton looks gassed!

Harper gets the takedown into side control.

Harper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Harper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Harper tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Harper is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thornton has escaped the position, nice work there.

Harper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Harper wants to control but Thornton is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Harper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Thornton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Harper wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thornton, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thornton stops Harper from passing to mount.

Harper working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Danny Harper will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Harper uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Thornton.
Harper slips a jab from Thornton.
Thornton throws a right hand that Harper ducks under and follows up with a left that Harper also avoids with ease.
Thornton throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Thornton misses with an uppercut. Harper saw that one coming.
Thornton throws a lazy right hand but Harper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Thornton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harper dodges the punch combination from Thornton.
Thornton misses with the combination.
Danny Harper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thornton is breathing heavily.
Some wild striking there from Thornton.

Harper rushes Thornton and presses him up against the cage.
Thornton prevents a takedown attempt there.
Harper stalling against the cage.

Harper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Greg Thornton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thornton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Harper circles away quickly and effectively.
Harper uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thornton.

Harper looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Harper drops back looking for a leg! Thornton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Thornton manages to kick Harper off! Harper jumps back into Thornton's guard.
Harper is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Harper forces his way into half guard.

Harper maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Thornton could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Harper has cracked it and Thornton is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Harper!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Danny Harper!
