The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
tomkins fails with a takedown attempt.
Couture looks to land a combination but tomkins avoids it well.
Couture darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Couture is pressing down on tomkins's thigh, looking to free his foot. tomkins is holding on for now.

Couture seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down tomkins for as long as he can get away with.

Couture finds tomkins's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! tomkins flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Couture lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure tomkins will be OK.
