Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kev Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Gardner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kev Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Gardner!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gardner moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Smith.
Nice takedown defense from Gardner. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Gardner fails with the takedown.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Gardner moves out of range easily.
Gardner misses with a wild combination.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Gardner on that attempt.
Gardner takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gardner scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gardner wants to free his trapped foot but Smith is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Smith wriggles free and stands up.
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Gardner circles away.

Gardner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gardner wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

Gardner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gardner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Smith is trying to improve his position.
Smith is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gardner is controlling him well.

Gardner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Kev Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gardner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kev Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Gardner.

Gardner shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

and Gardner counters with a single leg into guard. Smith didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gardner wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Gardner is having none of it.
Gardner won't allow Smith to sweep him here.
Smith is looking to stand up but Gardner isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gardner connects with a couple of short punches.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Gardner from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Gardner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gardner moves into the clinch successfully.

Smith is trying to stall.

Gardner manages to break the clinch.
Gardner tries for a takedown but Smith sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Smith tries to clinch there but Gardner circles away.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gardner closes the distance and clinches.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gardner swivels and escapes.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Gardner shoots in.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Smith gets to his feet - Gardner follows without any prompting.
Smith is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Smith is looking to clinch.
Gardner avoids the head kick by Smith.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gardner circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gardner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gardner is controlling him.
Gardner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gardner wants to stand but Smith is controlling his posture from full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Smith wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Gardner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Smith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Gardner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!
Smith tries to roll but Gardner sticks to his back.
Gardner tries to keep control of the position but Smith is staying busy.
Gardner might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Paul Gardner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Smith trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Gardner is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Gardner controlling the positon.
A lull in the action here.
Smith is trying to stand back up.

Smith is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gardner gets his way!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Smith has one foot on Gardner's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith throws a head kick but Gardner moves out of range.
Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gardner shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gardner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Gardner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Gardner is looking for a kimura but Smith is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gardner to get the leverage.
Gardner is tying to control. Smith wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Gardner throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith is looking to escape.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.
Smith taking some punishment here, with Gardner in his half guard.
Gardner wants to take a breather but Smith is having none of it.
Smith manages to get to full guard.
Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gardner dives into side control.

Gardner wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.

Smith explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Gardner closes the distance and clinches.

Smith wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gardner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Gardner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gardner off to one side.
Smith lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Paul Gardner has been cut.
Crack! A monster head kick from Smith and Gardner falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by Smith!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Kev Smith!
